Just wondering how often most of you see the doctor for a checkup.
I haven't been in almost 16 years. :o
I hate doctors. They scare me. :(

i don't like doctors either! they scare me! i am more scared of the dentist though. i don't go to the doctor unless i HAVE to go.
I avoid them like the plague if I can, I have just been because I have Bronchitis, and I may need to go back, as I am having trouble shaking it off, but I also have to go yearly as they won't give me my painkiller pills, without a yearly visit, its mandatory, which is not such a bad thing, as I get my Blood pressure checked etc.
I go once a year because I am supposed to. :) I don't like it, but I don't hate it. Just something I have to do, being a woman and all.
Going to see my doctor is fine.
I have to go at least once a year for my check up, like Carole, but with old age creeping on I seem to be going at least 3 times a year now.
Lynne
Sadly, I go quite often :(
Something is always coming up. My immune system has been weakened by years of eating disorder, and the slightest cold has me in bed for a week!
Let's just say that after 16 years you are due for a check up. Those aren't bad at all. A pap smear and a mameogram would probably be something you would want to have as well. Also you should get a tetanus vaccination at least every ten years.Quote:

I'm a big baby when it comes to just about everything, and these things are a piece of cake. Go, get it over with and you'll feel better for it.
I go the "the" Dr. every year.
My grandmother had not been to the Dr. since 1964 (when she had her last child) until she had a minor stroke in 2000!
That was 36 years!!!!!
Sadly since then, she had a major stroke and has passed.
Your kidding right?
I've been to the dr so much in the past few years with my graves disease/thyroid disorder. So I see a specialist for that and have also have been seeing a ophthalmologist (protrusion of eyeball). Then having to go to my gyno every year and if my back gives me problems I have to see my dr. about that.
Well you get the point. My checkups are close together so I guess it all depends on what dr I'm going to:p
They aren't that bad, so don't be scared. Just do it, you'll thank yourself later.
The only doctor I go to for a yearly exam is my OB/GYN. Any other doctors, I avoid if at all possible. I did, however, have to break down and go to my GP back in May (due to major stress related issues...).
Cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure all run in my family. My mom is constantly on my back to go have a checkup. I think I'm afraid that the doctor will find something wrong with me. :(
I check my blood pressure using one of those store machines, and I have my own diabetes checker thingy that I use every so often to keep track of my blood sugar.
I did go to the ER about 10 years ago when my eardrum partially ruptured because of the flu, but I haven't been for a regular check up.
Well, I have some bad allergies and Asthma and have to visit my doctor on a very regular basis. I have found that the more you visit them, the easier it is. Do I like going? No. But I don't hate it either. My Dr. knows that when the weather starts to change, I will probably be in there. And then there is the yearly female visit - my least favorite of all! But there is also a history of cancer in my family - so I go.
So PJ's Mom - the doctor can become your friend and confidant. Let the doctor know that you are not comfortable and I bet they will take more time with you to get you to relax. With your history (we share some of the same type btw) you really should go. And just think - then your mom would have to find something else to complain to you about....
just my two cents.....:):D
Lol...oh my...I'm at the doctors all them time. Every three months. I see my family dr., gyn dr., cancer dr. and radiologist/oncologist doc. I have one more gyn visit and then I will switch to every 6 months and the radiologist once a year.
You really should go. Its a piece of cake and like Anna says you will thank yourself later and feel much better.
Take care of yourself. Its important
Robin :)
An ounce of prevention, as they say....
I am another one who votes for you to have a doctor visit. I go yearly for blood work (check cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.) and when I am sick, which thankfully isn't often.
I see my OB-GYN yearly and schedule yearly mammograms. I also visit my eye doctor every two years (actually I visit him every day because he is also my boss ;) )
So many health issues do not give *warning signals.*
Of course you should also see your dentist twice a year. Now there's a person that I sometimes could do without. LOL!
At least three times a year (usually more like 5-10) and also additional girlie visits. ;)
When I get older, I'll start getting mammograms and colonoscopies and all that fun stuff. Not looking forward to that!
I'm big on prevention. I get my teeth cleaned twice a year, get my eyes checked every year, etc.
