My grandmas dog never lifts his leg and he's 2 years old. It's nothing to worry about, some dogs just don't do it. Alot of dogs never lift their leg, my RB bichon only did that 3 times in his whole life.
well ok!! thanks,i guess mabye b/c he's not very teritorial(spl??)!:p lol
Most of the time, if a dog is neutered before they learn to lift their leg, they won't ever do it at all.
My big shepard/collie Corey who lived to be 12, never lifted his leg.
That'd be Major.Quote:

sometimes male dogs dont know to do that. My aunts dog needed to be around other male dogs to finally learn how to do that! LOL ;)
totally! it's a learned, and unlearnable, thing. What do I mean? When I got Buddy at 6 months old, he didn't know how to lift his leg. He learned it from watching other dogs at the dog park!! Well, a few years ago, when he was 6 years old, I took in a stray girl dog for only a few days. She was pretty dominant, too. Well, guess what happened??? He started watching her, and he stopped lifting his leg!! I couldn't believe it. As soon as she was gone, he started lifting it again.
Talk about impressionable, and subject to peer pressure!!
Jasper doesn't do it either.
But Piddle was over a year old before he did it, and was neutered before that
I have several males here--neutered as adults, who still don't lift their legs. I also have a 10 year old spayed female who does!
It varies by dog and nothing to worry about.
Don't worry about it. :)
Rocky did not lift his leg for about a year.
He would switched from a squat and add
a lift here and their. Gradually he became a high
lifter. To tell you the truth I like the squat better.
My sister's dog,
(that has since passed away did not lift his leg
till he was around 7 years old.) :)
Gomer's 4 and he never lifts his leg...
RB Max didn't start lifting his leg until he was about 6ish. I was living with dad & there were other large upstairs.
If I was walking Max I punished this behaviour. I didn't like him lifting his leg every 5 seconds during a nice walk. I would go up to him & force his leg down & then tell him he was good. It worked until my dad had him full time when I was in college. He broke Max & Max developed sooo many bad habbits like peeing in the house. He was 8-9 years old & it took dad 6 months to break him.
I didn't get time to retrain him cause mom murdered him just before xmas of last year.
So unless u want ur dog peeing on all ur plants & on buildings, don't promote him lifting his leg.
Huh?????? What on earth does this mean? This is pretty scary....please explain.Quote:

It depends on the dog. Clover (Spayed Female) lifts her leg alot of the time, and Elvis has been doing so since quite a young age. Elvis was so funny when he first lifted his leg and would look around to see what was happening LOL silly boy, but he still squats at times also.
