Please Help Asap... Unplugged Cat But...

My cat spent 5 days at the vet clinic (hospitalized) he had a catherer in , (for Urinary Blockage) we finally brought him home today but he is straining alot to urinate, when he finally does it is very little. He also (meows ) (cries?). He is on Antibiotics and Methigel. The vet changed his diet to a special one (Hill's prescription diet). is it normal for him to be urinating so little and with pain? Is he sore...or do you think he is having a relapse? Please reply asap, thanks so much!:confused:

I would call to ask the vet as soon as you can, just to be sure. He might still feel pressure making him think he has to go.

I would get him back to the vet ASAP! If he is blocked, it could be fatal within hours. He should not be straining or in pain while urinating!

If he has continual blockage problems, there is an operation they perform to move the urethra (?) or something like that. Phred and Randi and others here have had the operation on their kitties with great success.

But the important thing right now is that you get him back to the vet ASAP. This is nothing to wait around on because it can be fatal!

I'm a KatDad who went through this -
And upon the previous advice of my Vet -

IF the Cat is either "straining" or seemingly "in pain" -
*RUSH* to either your regular Vet or an Emergency Vet!

A urinary blockage ia an URGENT, Red Flag Emergency that
must be cleard within a few hours of the onset.

My Boots had THREE re-lapses after getting un-plugged with a catheter;
he then had "The Operation" to re-route his "plumbing".

Your Vet should have given you some "instructions"
on what to expect and do...

Did he/she tell you to "force" water into the cat?
A cat recovering from a urinary blockage *MUST* drink a
considerable amount of water to "flush* their system and
prevent future blockages...
My Boots was "encouraged" to drink with a Syringe -
open mouth, insert syringe (withOUT the needle on it),
and *SQUIRT* a teaspoon of water down the hatch!

Please - DO NOT *wait* - CALL the Vet right away!

I agree with the advice given above, you should at least call your vet and tell him/her that your cat is straining to pee. He shouldn't be, so soon after, if he's been flushed properly through!

I take it you have got Hills S/D for him, that is supposed to dissolve any crystals which would cause a blockage.

It's important to get him to drink, so try putting bowls of water around in different places. Make sure he doesn't eat ANYTHING else than the diet food!

However, you should call your vet or the clinic where he was NOW!

I agree with the others that you need to get him back to the vet or emergency vet asap. My cat Cirrus had the operation and it was successful and he's been fine ever since. He's on the Hills Prescription c/d diet. I remember my vet telling me that without the operation, it would take a few months for the new food to dissolve the crystals. :) I wanted to take the time to thank you all for your advice and prayers for my cat, he is doing a lot better, still a little sore but for sure better, took him for a follow up and the vet said there was a slight trace of blood in his urine, but he gave him a week's worth of antibiotics and we will go from there. Thank you all so much!!!!

So glad he's feeling better!

I'm so glad to hear that he's doing much better. Now hopefully the antibiotics will clear him all up so he's back to normal again.:)
