Thanks :D I want a Katana too..I doubt I'll ever be able to afford an actual japanese one so I'd settle for an american copy of one hahah XD
-
Just make sure it isn't made of Pakastani Steel...those things are so horible.
I have one made of 440 stainless...and use it in live steel compitition. It doesnt ding up all that much and it isnt going to shatter with a good hit either.
-
I just want one for show actually. I think they look really neat so I wouldn't really need to worry about that too much haha. I heard you can get a good copy of one and it's very hard to tell the difference. If I ever become rich then I'd like to buy a good Japanese made one cause they're awesome.
You said competition, so you're one of those sword fighty people? lol I'd sooo love to learn that. I've seen really talented people on TV and I'm very envious of them lol
-
Yes Im one of those sword fighty people :D Me and the hubby practice all the time. It does have its hazards though. The last time we practiced he caught me in good block and I went to slide out of it. He ziged when he should have zagged and nailed his own thumb  .
Most of the time, we nail ourselves, not each other lol.
It takes a lot of time and a lot of trust with the person you're "fighting" with. We usually practice first with sticks or wood swords before we move to live steel. A bruse is a lot less of a problem than a big gash!
As far as any sword is concerned, I am of the superstitious belief that swords/kinves pick you. Even if it is a display piece, if the thing isn't right for you, it will make you uncomfortable. Maybe it comes from years of actually competing with the things lol.
