To all the butt scooting kitties out there . . .

Anyone else out there have a cat that scoots their butt on the carpet? I know this has been discussed before, but I'm moving to a new home and will have to keep my Josie in a carpeted room. That's scary for me cause she scoots her butt regularlly across the carpet, and sometimes she does it when she has a clinger. It's a mess . . . She's been to the vet over it, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with her.

Anyway, if anyone has had experience with butt scooters and has any suggestions, please let me know.

Butt scooting usually means worms. My dogs have done that on a occassion but nothing was wrong with them. Is it after she goes to the bathroom or before? Sounds like she could have a "DingleBerry" maybe wiping off. If she does it again maybe use some toilet paper and wipe her hieni. There could just be some irritation in that general area and the carpet makes it feel better. If she does it outside in the grass she could get ring worms. I would just treat the area with moisturizer or neosporin. Maybe the irritation will clear up or otherwise you just have a very strange and unique cat:D

Is your kitty a long or short hair? My cat Tibby has a lot of problems with Klingons, so I usually cut her butt hair.

I know with dogs, and occasionally with cats, butt-scooting usually means issues with anal glands. If you don't know what those are, they're 2 little sacs on either side of the rectum. They fill with a gross fluid which usually empties when the animal poops. However, sometimes the animal is unable to release the fluid on their own and they need a little 'help'. It's not pretty, and should only be done by a vet or someone trained to do it. If not taken care of anal glands can become inpacted requiring medical attention and occasionally surgery to take care of it. So if you've tried all the other roads and there's no dingleberries, or worms, go to a vet and have her anal glands checked out.
