Sam doesn't like my friend!!

Hi,
Okay I have a 3 year old beagle cross(yeah, right...:rolleyes:) anyways, hes super friendly, and he loves people, but for some reason, he does not like certain people, and I don't know why.
For instance, in July last year I had my birthday party, and all my friends came over and he was totally friendly. Now, he really doesn't like my friend, Emily. It's so weird...he was totally friendly and liked her at the birthday party, but for a few months now(I don't see her that often), whenever she comes to my door he looks at her and growls. I don't let him near her because I don't want to risk him biting, but it's the weirdest thing! He's really exited that someone has come to the door, then when he looks at her, he just starts growling! Also, at my sister's birthday party, he was completly friendly to everyone, but when they were opening presents he took one look at her and started growling, but he had seen her the whole time and never did that. But, it happened when she was holding onto his collar pulling him back, but he still would never do that!! I can grab at him any way in the world and so can any of my friends(except emily)and he won't care at all!! Another thing, Emily is one of the nicest people I know and has NEVER done anything to harm Sam, she has 2 dogs. And she loves animals. The girl at my sister's birthday party wasn't mean to him either! It's totally weird...like it has nothing to do with the way my friend approaches him, either, he just has to look at her and he growls. Can anybody tell me what might be the problem here and how I can fix it?
Oh yes, and I attached a picture of Sam just so you can see what he looks like, if that might be any help in any way.:)

No expert here - a friend of mine from elementary school's dog HATED me. When I came to her door (every morning before school, and other times), her dog would bark, snarl, lunge at the door ... and we never knew why.

If your friend Emily is willing, try having Sam on a leash, telling him sit, and then have her approach calmly. If he reacts negatively, she can stop, but then she should show him the treat in her hand ... see if he then wants the treat. If he continues growling or whatever, she can put the treat back in her pocket, but if he acts calmly enough, she can either offer it to him (with you right there, leash in hand, so he knows you are there to protect him) or place it on the floor a short distance awy from him, but so that he clearly sees she is a treat-giver ...

Does it seem like fear, or aggression?

And to answer your question, no, it doesn't seem like fear, and it's not really that agressive. All he does is once he sees her, he stands there still, (because I was holding him by his collar), looks her in the eye and growls. :rolleyes: :confused:

The Beagle can smell the dogs from your friend and will think that this posses a threat. You must teach you dog that this is not
the case by showing him that you are happy with this person by being joyfull and at ease with your freind .This will take a few
trial periods but he will eventually come around the treat idea is good also but how you react is what will make the differance .
The Beagle's relationship with othe dogs may be part of his early development but this can be overcome with a little training .

Well I'm not sure that he's agressive because he smells her dog, because I have another friend who has two dogs that are like savages lol they rip everything to shreds and my friend that owns them roughhouses with Sam and totally riles him up but Sam still likes her even he can smell the dog on her. Emily's dogs are more friendly than the other girl's...:confused:

That may be but I still suggest the happy routine It works If you keep It up . and different dogs may affect you dog . I will say any

Perhaps Emily is not the person you think she is. Not to insult your friend, but sometimes dogs have more sense than we do. She may have been privately mean to him or he may have not liked her restraining him! Or he could just have a bad feeling about her!
I had a boyfriend that my dog acted friendly to. Yet, one night he was over while I was getting dressed to go out. My bed was unmade, (dog likes it that way) well he made it for me, tucked it in nice & came to see if I was ready yet. Well, my perfectly trained poodle - POOPED ALL OVER THE BED! She stayed away whenever he was near.
She was right he ended up beating me!!

Dogs HATE my dad.

I remember we had the friendliest little dog who would never growl at anybody - but she'd bite his ankles every chance she got.

If you guys remember all the things I told you about my dad, then you might be able to see that they were sensing what kind of person he was.
