Yes, the cat should have died from dehydration but my vet once told me that cats are desert animals and can go for up to a week without water before harm starts...
This poor gal- wonder where her cat partner got shipped to and probably didn't survive. Sounds like bad parenting to me!!!

Maybe that explains the "sack" some cats have hanging down. It is for storing water --- like a camel. What do you think????
