Is this cage safe?
Hi all.
Im very paranoid about this. From the post that somone made about whos puppy died in a wire cage, and the post about maggie gettig her jaw stuck. Its freaking me out!
My parents went and got elvis a new wire cage. I was wondering what you all think about it. Right now he is sleeping in there quietly, but im just really afraid he will get somthing stuck. and my parents keep reasuring he wont. but i want PT's advice.

Personally I/my family have NEVER crated a dog.
Only for transport, not even as a bed.
Are dog are aloud freely around the house when we are gone.
In fact no one i know crates a dog, its not well known here really but it looks like a good one.

No, from my recent experience, I would ask your parents to return it. If you just got it, maybe you could bring it back and get a safer one that you think would be safe for your new addition. :D

Thanks, we have to crate him because he is not housebroken yet, and when Im at school no one will be able to watch him.

That's almost identical to the one we have for Malone! It seems perfectly safe, but then I'm not sure of the one that was reported as unsafe.
The only "problem" that I have is after 2 years, the sliding "bolts" are getting rusty, and it doesn't close as easily. But it has really worked well for us, and I am planning on getting another one for Emerson.

ps If you are really worried, make sure you take all collars and tags off before you put him in there!

We crate all our dogs. Nothing has ever happened to any of them in the crate. Oreo has been in the same crate for 14 1/2 years, Dazzi has for 3, Snoopy, Taggert and Jack over 1 year. I don't know what would be wrong with yours. Looks okay to me. Maybe you can go back and find that thread and read what kind they said were unsafe.

Thankyou for the advice!
I'm feeling better since alot of you havent had problems.
I guess im being a little worried wart! :p

I use this kind for Gigi...
http://www.petsmart.com/media/ps/ima...0635_315b3.jpg and I think it works fine for her. And now she goes in there sometimes herself. :)
And this is what looks like with Gigi in it. LOL. :D

That's like cami's cage.. I'll attach a picture.. We have had it with cami since the day we got her, and it hasn't caused any trouble at all.. To me it is perfectly safe. The only thing we *always* do is take off her collar before we put her in, in case she gets her collar caught on one of the wire things, and gets stuck and chokes.. So we take that off while we are gone..

This is my thread on what happend to Maggie on Saturday: Maggies cage experience

I have no idea if this will work but I will try. Here is the place on the internet where Aspen and Misty saw the article about the unsafe kennel
The thread talking about it is here. Amber, read down through it because she tells you what she did to make hers safer which I thought would work well. Kimmy had not seen this post so she started one too about a day later. It is here.
We all worry about our dogs because to us they are our babies. So don't worry that we will think you are a worry wart - we all are when it comes to our pups.

Jenfer, we used one of those for Elvis too. He really likes it.
Im glad to see that no one had any problems. Makes me feel a alot better. I wont hae to worry about a collar, his little neck it too small, even for cat collars. lol :p

Thankyou for posting that link. I checked the hooks, and they seem sturdy. There is no way elves could unlock it. And I even can't get them unlocked.
ours isnt a stage one, we just got one big enough for elvis when he will be older. ( he wont be that big )

We crate trained the last two dogs we got (Greta was crate trained as a pup) and Spencer is still a puppy but now a rather LARGE one. :D I put a cover around the sides to give it a more "cave like" look and Spencer still sleeps in it at night. He's housebroken and has been for many months now, but he still loves his bedroom. His beef is when he wants to go to bed and there's cats sleeping in it! He just clambors in over them and flops down. They get the hint and leave! Spencers cage looks identical to the one you have for Elvis.
