Just got off the phone with the vet.......

I just got off the phone with Jasper's vet about him scratching and things, she was going to find some food to help.

BUT after talking to alot of different vets and things, they think he has scabies, incase anyone doesn't know, it's a contagious skin infection caused by some sort of mite. Boxers are very prone to getting scabies, theyre also prone to alergies, but she wants to try the scabies treatment first because if it is scabies we need to treat it now.

He only needs 1-2 treatments, its just like an oil/lotion and then it should be gone.

The other dogs and cat can catch it, even WE can catch it, so I hope we get rid of it fast, I made an appointment for Friday.

Please hope that this is what's wrong, and that it'll be all over with when he gets treated, and that he can eat regular food and stop itching all the time, Thanks!

I had a foster dog with sarcoptic mange (scabies). She was just a baby (4 weeks old). It was a big pain keeping her seperated from my other animals, but I had to do it. I made sure to be REALLY clean and always changed clothes and washed my hands, arms, and face after handling her.

Definately not the most fun thing in the world, but its much quicker to get rid of than demodex mange.

Does Jasper have any hair loss or scabs?

He has hair loss from scratching, and a few sores, they also said that hairloss is sometimes a side effect from the treatment.

Have they done a skin scrape on him? Its usually pretty easy to see in the microscope.

Yes they did a skin scrape, and they tested him for 2 or 3 types of skin diseases that boxers are also known to have and he doesn't have any of them, they are also going to do another skin scrape on Friday.

I hope and pray this will be the answer to Jasper's skin problems. I know how much trouble skin problems can be with allergies and so on. Willie had some bad skin problems when he was younger and it was so frustrating to deal with.
