Lake Murray is one of the most beautiful spots in SC. There are many, for sure, but it is one of my favorites!! How lucky your parents are!!! :) My daughter's father lives about 1 mile from the lake and they go there often in the summer months.
Lake Murray is a "man made" lake, built in the 50's to run generators for the local power company. It is huge and beautiful. My grandfather built a house, right on the lake, out of rocks in the lake bed (before they allowed the water in). We spent a lot of time there when I was very small. After his death in 1968, my grandmother sold the property for $25,000. These days, that piece of property, surrounded on three sides by water, would probably sell for $500,000 or more. Unfortunately, there was no one at that time, in our family, who could afford to take it over.
