2 temporary foster (no pics)

I am fostering 2 adult females for the winter months. The girl who had them as fosters cannot keep them in the cold months because she fosters in an out building that has no heat. So they are here. They are hard to adopt types. Bailey is a very large torti short hair with more tortitude than I ever had to deal with. She would make a good attack dog. Getting her to trust me might just take all winter. Lizzie ia a grey tabby long hair. On the surface she is a very nice kitty, I like her already. But she turns on you. One of those "I've had enough now" kitties. I will attempt to "desensitize" her if at all possible so that some potential new home can see the beauty in her. As soon as they are comfortable I will attempt to take, develop, scan and post pictures. (so yes, it might take a while). But hopefully my lack of pictures will not bring a lack of interest from you all. ;)

Oh Jen, you must have saintly patience! But, the cold winter months will give you time to work with these cats I would guess. It will be fun to see pictures eventually-and just to hear of their progress.

WOW!! The best of luck to you! It sounds like you have your hands full!! But even from the short amount of time I have been here I already know that they are in VERY capable hands!! I'm glad these two have a chance with someone who is kind, patient, and cat smart...YOU! Having dealt with wild ones myself I know what virtue patience can be. Oh my goodness - that line about the "attack dog" really made me laugh! I am sure that is how you cope with this - an intense love for cats and a GREAT sense of humour! Of course I forgive for not having pics *yet*...... ;)

I am sure if anyone can socialise these two lucky ladies it's you! Do you knwo their history - why they are so "wild" and why they are in foster care? Were they living outside for a long time, or did they have bad homes? Maybe understanding where they come from / what they have been through will give you clues as to how to rehabilitate them.

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you Jen! Good luck with both of them, and I can't wait for pics! And I'm also glad that the problems with Jim and Sterling have settled down enough for you to consider fostering again. I'm glad you didn't give up on it altogether, and hopefully there won't be any recurrences with the two new fosters. :)

Another two kitties in from the cold - how wonderful! :) Bailey sounds a lot like Fister's mom, she was a tough lady, once cleared out the yard when a dog was about to attack a cornered cat, but didn't become cuddly until a week before she died. :(

Oh Jen you are a saint. No just anyone would take in an attack cat. Hope you have plenty of attack gear for when you have to go in and feed them and like CCL said, plenty of band-aids and ointment.

Jen, I'm so glad to hear that you're continuing to foster. :) I'm sure that you'll be able to turn them into more trusting and loving cats. Good luck and I can't wait to see their pics. :) Does the long haired gray one look anything like my Storm?

Here is some background are on the "girls"
Lizzie came from an elderly hoarder, that kept all her
cats in rabbit cages. I have no idea where she originally came from or who declawed her. This woman "thought" she was a rescuer. So maybe she had a home at one time.

Bailey . What a basket case. She was taken in by a girl
and her room mate like 6 years ago at age 3 weeks. They bottle fed her. That cat was to the vet more than any cat I had ever seen in my life. For like no reason!! At one point they even had a custody battle over her. Somewhere along the line, she went nutso and the girl wanted to get rid of her. She said it was dry food that was making her crazy. She told me Bailey was making her whole family crazy. I don't think they needed Bailey
to make them crazy. She came to me on Acepromazine, so doped up she couldn't walk straight.

They have been introduced to the kittens and are OK with them. These girls do not actually LIKE other cats, but will not bother them if they stay out of their faces. And the kittens seem smart enough not to push them too far. So it ought to be an interesting winter.

Lizzie really IS loveable. I like her a lot, but sheesh, unpredicable. Bailey has not warmed up to me yet, but I was warned that it would take weeks. Pictures are in the camera so we are getting closer to posting them ;)
