Does age matter?

Does age matter when you date someone? I mean, I've seen people that are like 10 or more years older than their partner (or the other way around). Does age really matter? If you're in love, should it matter? I like this guy who is 4 years older than me, but he would never go out with me because of our age difference. What do you guys think? Does age really matter all that much? Post your opionions here. I just want to know what you guys think. It's just an opionion, so no one is wrong on their answer and no one is right. SO, POST AWAY PEEPS! :D

It depends on the age of the people (not the age difference). If both parties are adults, NO. But when one is a child then it really DOES matter.

It depends on how old you are. My SO is 9 years older than me, but we met when I was in my late twenties.

On the other hand, when I first started dating (at 15-16), a couple of guys in their 20's asked me out - and that is sick! Once you get into your twenties age isn't such a big factor, but if you are in your teens it is. Not to mention if you are under 16, in a lot of places it can be illegal.

I just looked at your profile - you are 14, right? So the guy is 18? He is a legal adult, and I would seriously question him if he is interested in a 14 year old.

A 13-year old and an 18-year old? Absolutely. A 23-year old and a 28-year old? No, though interests may be different due to where you are in life. A 20-year old and an 80-year old? I'm sorry, but in my opinion, that's nasty. I cannot help but think that there is some ulterior motive if the age difference is that great... but hey, it's happened before and sometimes, it actually is because they provide great companionship. So... it just depends on the age.

Due to my past experiences, the younger you are, the less serious "love" should be taken - though just the opposite happens.

Picture it, Vancouver, 1948.

A beautiful bride of 24 walks down the aisle to greet the groom who was 44. Hardly anyone showed up for the wedding because back in 1948 people thought differently and the age difference was just too much. Not only that, but the groom started dating the bride when he was still married to his first wife :eek: :eek:

Mom and Dad were happily married for 47 yrs before he passed in 1995.

Does age matter?? Heck no. (in adults, that is.....)

I totally agree with Jen (and Slick). I am five years older than my husband. :o It truly doesn't matter at our age, but had I been 20 and him 15, I think it would have mattered a lot! :eek:

But since I met him when I was 39 and he had just turned 35, I think it was ok. :) I should rephrase that.....it is definitely ok!!! :)

My husband is 13 years older than me. I married him when I was 24. At our ages, it didn't make a difference.

However . . . (there's always a however). . . when I was in high school I dated some older guys and it did NOT work out well. Older boys tend to get verrrrrrry pushy about the S.E.X. thing.

It depends... 4 years when you're in your 20's or above is no big deal, but when you're a teenager, it makes a huge difference. There is so much growing and maturing done between 14 and 18. Not to mention that it's illegal for an 18 yr. old to be with a 14 year old.

As people have said it depends on the ages of people involved. 18 and 14? Wrong. Illegal. Sick.
24 and 20? fine.

Until you're an adult its a huge difference. Think of it this way, would YOU date someone four years younger than you? Kinda gross huh?

I agree with everyone. Terry is 15 years older than me. But picture this. He's 28, been married once but now divorced, well on his way in his first "real" job, really into Corvettes and racing. I'm 13, a geeky barely teenager, still have my Barbie dolls lined up in my room and not even beginning to "sprout."

28 years ago when this was the case, it would have been totally sick of him to even remotely consider dating me. But when we finally did meet and start dating, he was 47 and I was 32 - well old enough to be over the age difference.

My Grandma was 20 years younger than my Grandpa and Terry's dad divorced Terry's mom and ended up marrying a woman 15 years younger than him. So I guess it sort of runs in our families. ;)

So it completely depends on the age of the people. 18 and 13 or 14 is too much of a difference. 25 and 21 is not. When I was 18 I was dating a guy that was 26. I didn't think so at the time, but I now see that was too much of a difference.

I agree with Jen. If they're adults, it doesn't really matter, but if they're teens, then no. Its just really weird to me, even if they're just 3 years apart.

It's not just the age difference, it's the maturity level of the two people as well. But, no I don't agree with a 13 year old going out with an 18 year old.

ahh.. It really depends.. Maybe a 13 and a 16 year old.. Maybe.. ehh... maybe.. i dont know... I dont think it does.. If your in love with someone you know whats right, age doesnt matter..
