I'm worried about Bailey

Bailey's stitches from her spaying are doing great no redness or swelling. But she is having a problem. She just started learning to use her dog door yesterday and had no accidents so we gave her full access to her water bowl (I was limiting water until she was housebroke). Last night she was sleeping on the love seat and wet it in her sleep. This morning she got in bed with me and wet the bed. Both times this has happened she has been sound asleep. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I get so worried about her and I have never known of a dog to wet while they are asleep. :confused:

Nanaberry, I must have missed some previous posts about Bailey. I'm afraid I need to be caught up. Yes, I would be concerned if she is wetting in her sleep. That doesn't seem quite normal to me. Have you placed a call to your vet? How old is Bailey and was she pretty much housebroken before her procedure? My standard poodle, Bella, was recently spayed (July 27) and all went very well, with no problems afterward. I hope that Bailey's accidents are nothing serious, but I would certainly let the vet know and see what he/she thinks. Please let us know how she does.

Hi Pam, Bailey is 5 months old and was almost housebroke before the surgery. As I said I limited her water until yesterday. She had her surgery last Tuesday.
She drank alot of water yesterday but it concerns me that she is wetting in her sleep. When she is awake she does fine. I will call the vet tomarrow but I was hoping someone may have been thru this and could give me some advice. Thanks Brenda

We will keep our fingers crossed that nothing is wrong and it is just one of those strange unexplainable things. We worry so much about our pups going through this surgery but we pretty much take for granted that when it's all over everything returns to normal. I certainly hope that is the case. You have certainly come to the right place for advice. Most everyone here (I hope) has neutered or spayed their pet so maybe someone can add something. On a lighter note...maybe she was dreaming she was outside in the yard with some delightful smells and just let loose! :D :D Seriously, I hope she will be just fine.

Hi Nanaberry, I hope Bailey is doing well.
Maybe since she was just being potty trained she sort of went back to square one. I haven't come across that problem, but I'm sure the Vet can tell you what the answer is.

This does sound like something out of the ordinary. I have had five spayed females in the course of having dogs and never observed anything like that. This is just a thought and might not have any basis whatsoever. You said you had been limiting access to the water bowl previously. Maybe not having the water accessible before is causing her to drink excessively now. Take note of how much water is consumed from the bowl. It still seems strange that she would urinate in her sleep though.

Oops, I just reread your post and saw you noted she did drink a lot of water yesterday. I would definintely call the Vet and tell him/her about it but it just might be something like a kid wetting the bed situation.

Some puppies are obsessed with water, but I am not an advocate of limiting access. If you see her drinking alot, try to get her to stop on her own...*That's enough*..and then distract her to another activity. This may sort itself out in a couple weeks.

Try not to worry (yeah, right!) this is most probably caused by a number of factors and will settle down given a few days.
The fact that she has been drinking a lot, she will be extra thirsty and have a dry, slightly sore throat after the operation, could be the only cause. That along with the stress and after affects of the drugs could be the cause.
It is also pretty common for the bladder to have been moved during the operation or even for a nerve to have been bruised or damaged. This may make it difficult for her to feel when she needs to go if she is asleep.
You should certainly phone your vet and talk to him/her about it and they may want to see her again.

my dog Daisy peed in her sleep just a couple of months ago and she was spayed when she was 1 and shes 5 now!!(she grew to fast!!) and she fine so i wouldn't worry

Your veterinarian is the BEST one to ask about this problem. It certainly sounds like it could be related to the recent surgery. Honey developed a bladder infection and ended up with several "wetting" accidents before we figured out what was wrong. She wouldn't go in the cage at the vet's office or at the kennel after her surgery. That caused the infection, and antibiotics cleared her right up. She was the age of your Bailey when all this happened.

Hope you get some answers and get that sweet girl straightened out soon.

Hmmm Daisy never had any problems like that after she was spayed, but I'd definitely call the vet. Don't worry, I have a feeling this is nothing serious :) Keep us updated!

Many dogs get bladder infections after their spays, so a call to the vet is definatly in order.
Our Paula developed a nasty vulvar infection after her spay - it took a couple of months and the strongest antibiotics available to get rid of it.... So please, call the vet; if there's a problem, trust me, you want to nip in in the bud!

Just talked to the vets office they said to limit her water to an ounce per pound of body weight.They said they will check back later and see if helps. I'll let you know later what happens.
