What to do in these kinds of situations.

Saturday afternoon, I was at the mall, and parked out in the boonies of the lots. It was about 70°F. Not hot but def. hot in the car.
I came out to leave and noticed that there were two small children in the car in front of me- alone. One was little and the other was an infant in a carrier.
OOOOH URGH, my blood started to boil. I almost called 911. Instead, I called Chris and asked what I should do. (I usually fly off the handle in certain situations and I've learned he is often a level headed second opinion before I make an *** out of myself.) He recommended I find mall police/security. So I drove around till I found a mall police officer and had her go check.

It is so sad to me that some people who'd be great parents try their whole lives and can't. Then some moron pops em out and leaves them to roast in a car. Even if heat wasn't an issue, they were too little to be alone in a car out in a parking lot of a mall!!

I've seen that around here too. Once day at Safeway a car was left running with 2 two small children alone in the car while the parent just ran in to buy something. Baffles me, because one of the children was old enough that he could have started playing with some knobs or something and the car takes off, or worse still someone could have kidnapped the children. Don't people think????

In this situation, the parent was coming out of Safeway the same time I was going in so I knew the kids would be safe. But...what if....

:mad: It makes my blood boil when I see things like this. I have called the police over a dog being left in a hot car. Can't imagine how I would feel if I saw children!!!! :mad:

Thank you for doing the right thing and getting the security guard. Wonder if he/she ever found the owner of the car (don't dare refer to this person as a parent...true parents don't do things like this).

I would have done the same thing. If was any hotter or the kids didn't look well, I wouldn't hesitate to break the windows, THEN call the police.

You hear about this all the time any more, not to long ago there was a woman who left her infant in the car, while she went shopping, because she didn't want to wake the baby up. :rolleyes: :mad:

What is wrong with people now days. How can a person look at their child and just say....Oh well I'll just leave you here because you are inconvenience to take in the store for me. Selfish people, all about whats best for them....the He%# with whats best for their children.

It just makes me so mad, I would have wanted to break the windows. Let the mother come out and see what a real inconvenience is. :D :D

My first instinct would have been to call the police to. I'm pretty sure that's illegal around here. A few months ago on the local news was the story of a woman arrested because she left her 11 and 5 yr. old in the car while she went into a casino. What is wrong with people?! Leaving an infant or any child alone in the car in the heat is just wrong.

There's a reason why Pop-a-lock will open your car for free if you accidently lock your child in...no child can last long in a locked car in the heat. Geez...where did common sense go? Speaking of which, I got this in my e-mail yesterday:

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valued lessons as
knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).

His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments
became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled it in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.


Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

If you still know him pass this on, if not you can give him a second
death.

I have been in the same situation before. I was walking into a Safeway and I heard this "thumping" and what sounded like voices coming from the trunk of a car. I was tempted to phone the police right then (but I didn't have a cell phone). So I went into the store and got the manager (I had worked there before). We went back out to the car and knocked on the trunk and it turns out there were two little kidsin there. I stayed with the care and the manager went back in to page the owner of the car. We figured that if no one answered immediately the next step was to phone the police. It turns out that there were two little boys who didn't want to go into the store with their parents. So the parents left them in the car and somehow they managed to flip down the back seat, get into the trunk area, but they couldn't get back out.

That definitely left me questioning the sanity of some parents...

In most states leaving kids in the care like that can get you a child endangerment or neglect charge, as it should be.
