4.)What Day/s Were Your Rat/s Born? *if you dont know, please tell me when you got them.* My rats were born on May 31st of 2003, They came home with me on July 4th of 2003.

5.)Why Did You Want Rats? I was very interested in their behavior and how much I have herd about them befor. I had done tonza research and stuff, but had to be sure I could afford the living coasts of rats, pluse my good Friend Jordan AKA wolfsoul got my addicted and majorly in love with her rats I had to have two of my own, it was only a matter of time.

7.)How Much Was Your Cage, And What Brand? *if it is homade please describe how you made it and how much it coast* My cage was 28 $ at a thrift shop, it was used.

8.)How Many Levels Does Your Rat/s Cage/s Have? it has two levels and two ways to get up to each level.

WOW this is going to take a long time!

1.)How Many Rats Do You Currently Own? 24? and have owned rats for 17 yrs.

2.)Are Any Of Your Rats Related To One Another? Since I am a breeder I have several rats here that are related to eachother, brothers, sisters, dads, uncles, moms etc.

3.)How Old Are Each Of Your Rats? Several different ages ranging from 2 months to a year and a half each

4.)What Day/s Were Your Rat/s Born? Bandit just turned a year, Meeko will be a year in December, his first litter of children will be a year in February..........

5.)Why Did You Want Rats? I have always owned them

6.)What Are Your Rat/s Names? Not all have names but I can describe each by color. The babies here that still need to go to their new homes are not named yet, since I want their owner's to be able to name them. I have two blue dumbo boys leaving today. :)


Ok here goes, it's going to be LONG though! This will also let you know who is related to whom. ;) Non breeders are pet store rats, in which case they will never have babies.

7.)How Much Was Your Cage, And What Brand? Well I have several cages. I have one Martins 695, which cost $126 bucks, and I hate it!!! It has three stories and is huge, but the wire is not sturdy enough.

One Super Pet Multi Floor Ferret Cage, one for my rats and one for my hedgie. Cost=$81 bucks and worth every penny! It has 4 stories, and is purple and very pretty! :D
I have two Quality Cage tank toppers, which are ten gallon tanks with wire addons. Each tank topper costs $75, and then the cost of the tank. I have one white Fern Cage, cost=$125 and well worth it! 2 20 gallon tanks which are used for babies, around $40 dollars each, as well as some cheap ten gallon tanks. One white birdcage that's pretty big which I use as a toddler cage for baby rats, FREE! I don't know the brand though.


Each cage has plenty of hammocks, cardboard boxes, plastic Ferret tubes and parrot toys to keep their minds stimulated.

For bedding we use a combination of Carefresh and Aspen shavings, and Critter Country in thier litter boxes.

9.)How Much Water Does Your Rat Recieve On A Days Basis? Well the boy's cages have three water bottles each, Critter Canteens, since the boys drink a lot. The girl's have one water bottle that gets filled nightly. The boy's get all three bottles changed nightly.

10.)When Was You Rat/s Last Vet Check? Just the other day. I try to get each rat in for a checkup at least once a year, but they go every time they need to go. Last time was just a few days ago with Sterlings wound, and then about two weeks ago I was in with Jedi and his foot. So almost every other week it seems like! Rats are EXPENSIVE!

11.)What Does Your Rat/s Diet Consist Of? Well it consists of a lot of things. :p No just kidding. Well I use a homemad mix that I buy in bulk at the Natural Food Store. I use black oil sunflower seeds, regular sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, garbanzo beans, cracked wheat, puffed rice/millet/wheat, Nutro Natural Choice Senior Dog food, Nutro Max cat Kitten for babies and moms, Innova dog food, mixed peas, and a bunch of other things that would take too long to list.

They also get fresh fruit and veggies daily, as well as a meat source and leftovers. They eat better than I do!

12.)What Time Of The Day Does Your Rat/s Have Their Meal/s? *and how many times a day?* Well they get breakfast around 7, which consists of a fresh fruit (either strawberry, banana, apple, pear etc.) and rice baby cereal or oatmeal. For lunch they get their homemad mix and lab blocks, and for dinner they get their meat (oysters, shrimp, fish, pork chops, chicken, ground beef etc) and some fresh veggies. Throughout the day they get all the stuff we didn't finish eating, like Dylan's scrambled eggs, his toast, leftover ovocado etc.

5.)Why Did You Want Rats? Because I have always loved small animals, and when I heard stories of how they make excellent pets I became intrigued and started my research which lead to the purchase of Oreo & Skittles (Peanut's mom) in 2001.

6.)What Are Your Rat/s Names? Princess Peanut, Phoebe, Violette, Chloe, Daisy, Fred, Oscar, and Suzie.

7.)How Much Was Your Cage, And What Brand? *if it is homade please describe how you made it and how much it coast* My rats tons of cages, since they are very spoiled. One is a homemade 4 feet by 2 feet cage which cost about $25 to make. The other one is a Havahart 24x24 cage for the cottage which was $35. The third cage is a Ware rabbit hutch which cost $99.00, the fourth one is a Super Pet multi-level ferret cage which costed $169.99 plus shipping. They also have a travel cage for in the car which costed $40.00 made by DaMar's. Oh yeah, I also have a 10 gallon tank which costed $20.00, and a 3 level DaMar's cage which doesn't get used muched, that one was $125, I believe. There is also the Havahart 36x36 cage which was $50, that hasn't gotten used much lately- it's out in the shed.

8.)How Many Levels Does Your Rat/s Cage/s Have? The ferret cage has 5 solid levels, but you can make tons of levels if you break up the shelving. Their current cage doesn't have any, but I am working on making some.

9.)How Much Water Does Your Rat Recieve On A Days Basis? 36 ounces is available 24/7 for them to drink. I think it is 36oz.

10.)When Was You Rat/s Last Vet Check? Peanut: March 2003, Fred & Oscar: December 2002, and Violette will be making a trip soon due to an abbess beginning to form under her eye.

5.)Why Did You Want Rats? Love at first sight! To tell you the truth I didn't know anything about them. I just wanted Frisco because he gave kisses and was super cute lol.

7.)How Much Was Your Cage, And What Brand? *if it is homade please describe how you made it and how much it coast*Icarus's cage is made up of three cages. One was 30 dollars from the petshop, the other two were free from family members. Frisco's cage was 15 dollars from a garage sale.

5. My aunt's doggies were very therapeutic, and I'd alsways loved mice, so when I needed, er, therapy, my stepmom suggested rats, because they make better pets. :)

9. They can drink freely from the bottle.
10. They haven't had one yet, but they've been pretty healthy so far.

I have a large Martins cage bought at a garage sale for $5.00 but they sell for 80-100ish

I fill their 2 bottles w/ fresah water daily although they are not empty, each is about 1/2 - 3/4 full

Only when needed (I was a vet tech for years & have friends in the profession still so I know & have a lot of knowledge & supplies to treat many things)

Mostly rat diet (mixed seeds, nuts, dried fruits, lab blocks etc) and everything I eat they eat, except for sugar snacks etc.. but I hardly eat them anyways

I fill their bowl w/ rat food every morning & ussually give them a bit of cat &/or dog food and some cereal. At night they get a little of whatever I eat for dinner

they are all about the same very happy, playful, loving & nice except for Ishtar & O'Reighlley who are kind of shy & skittish due to neglect from previous owners. Ishtar is worse but they are both better than when I first got them.
