destructive doggie

Yikes!!!!

I have a destructive dog, who seems to have a taste for electronics!!!!!:eek: :eek:

The other day, I was just saying how great it was that we had 3 young dogs, and they had never ruined anything really major. Sure, they got their claws onto a blanket and put a hole in it once, destroyed a couple of doggie beds, and clawed a few throw rugs, but no big deal.

In the past 3 days, Abbey has destroyed 3 things--Tuesday she got our remote and gutted it, Wednesday she got ahold of the hands free kit for my husband's cousin's cell phone and destroyed it, and last night was the clincher--she ruined my husband's cell phone, ate the antenna and all:eek: :eek: :eek:

To be fair, the remote and the cell phone were on the couch, and the hands free kit was on the table. I know she and Riley work together, and he got it off the table, and she proceded to chew it up. All 3 times, I was out walking Kito. The couch is plenty within her reach, but she has never done that before.

She has plenty of chew toys, and gets a lot of attention and exercise--I don't know why she got like this all of a sudden:confused: :confused:

When I first read the subject line,
I thought, "What's has my little Kito done now" lol
To my surprise, it was Abbey!

We just got three calculators and the antenna on the cordless phone eaten.They have everything but I think their toys were to old.I went and got new toys and things and for a few nights crated them 1/2 the night and they are ok again.They have tons of toys but I think like kids mine get bored with them.I can throw the new ones around when they are outside and they immediately go to them to play with when they come in.They know when they get new presents.I couldn't figure anything else different here but I am certainly interested in the responses you get.

PS I apolijize to Kito I thought it was you to of course Byakko gets her fare share of mistakes too and it wasn't here eating the things it is Mojo and Dakota working together.I catch it in Dakota's mouth mostly.

I have the same problem with my 1 1/2 yr old GSD, Buddy has eaten/chewed up his fair share of couch cushions, pillows, pillow cases, blankets, baseball hats, SOS pads, (yes...SOS pads), patio chair cushions, towels, my hubby's socks (I'm hoping that it will teach my hubby to not leave his socks in the living room), just a few weeks ago he destroyed my cell phone, and he pulled a little drawer out of a clock my hubby made when he was is high school, and chewed it to toothpicks!!! My other GSD Sierra will join in on the chewing good time only when Buddy starts first!! I guess she thinks she won't get into trouble that way! But Buddy's a big boy (already 83 lbs) and does a lot of damage quickly! Most of the time he does it when I'm in the shower in the am and my husband is sleeping! I don't get it!! They have toys everywhere, and they also have eachother to chew on and play with, but insist on chewing on things they are not supposed to!! The thing that gets me is that they know there not supposed to!! As soon as I see them after they have chewed something up, they both run away from me with tail tucked and ears down..looking at me with those big brown sad puppy eyes!!
Oh but you gotta love them!!!

Every once in a while my Taylor gets a little carried away, he hasn't really destroyed anything but a few text books and when he does get like this I find a few boundries never hurts. He doesn't get as much freedom of the house when I'm not home. He soon shapes up. Also you said that you were walking Kito then maybe these two were a little resentful that they weren't walking with you, maybe a little bit of jealousy. Who knows. Good luck with the electronics. When Taylor was 7 wks old he started chewing on the TV chord and he got a shock, hasn't gone near a chord since.

How old is Abbey, and how long ago did she start this behaviour? When that kind of "sudden" behaviour emerges, it suggests a few things to me: (1) That she could be having some teeth problems, and therefore an increased need to chew on hard objects; (2) That she is bored, not getting enough execise and/or attention; or (3) That something in her environment has changed of late, that is upsetting her in some way.

Just a few thoughts.....

Laurie and Karen--Kito says he will forgive you for assuming it was him:)

I've been giving her some extra "mommy time" the past few days, just she and I walking or playing, and she seems to be better. Also I started getting her and Kito out for looooong walks early in the morning, before anyone is up and about--it's really nice, and it tires them out a bit.
I'm not quite sure what her exact age is, we guess around a year and a half, so I know she's still very much a pup.
