Have to Vent
This is about my dog Buddy. I know a few of you also have dogs, so you will know how I feel about this.
I brought Buddy to be groomed yesterday to a new groomers just around the corner from me, normally I groom him myself, but I have been having back problems. Anyway, she called to say he was ready to be picked up. So I went to get him, which takes me about 3-4 minutes to get there, went to the back of the pet store to where he was and I couldn't see him. I said to the girl, "Where is he?" She pointed BEHIND the door, I looked and there was Buddy, shaking and looking scared out of his wits, locked in a LITTLE CAGE. I said, "OMG, why did you put him in a cage, he has never been in a cage before." She said, "Yeah, he didn't want to go in there." Well DUH!
The poor guy must have thought I abandoned him, or that he did something wrong. But boy when he saw his mommy he practically jumped into my arms. I held him for a few minutes to calm him down and couldn't wait to get out of there. Guess who won't be going back there again.
I have had Buddy now for about 10 years and he has been to 2 other groomers before and they never put him in a cage when he was finished.
I'm sorry this is long, but I was sooooooo upset over this.
When I got Buddy home, he got so much lovies and a few treats.
From now on, NO more groomers for him.
Thanks for hearing me out.
A few of my neighbours couldn't understand why I was so upset about this, but I know you guys would.

When Gandy goes to get his summer shave, my boyfriend stays with him the whole time. The groomer is a lady who does it out of her house so it's really informal (and probably cheaper than a full-service salon) - maybe you could find a place like that?

Thanks Boscibo, I will have to inquire around about that.

Good idea Boscibo, I was thinking that, or those mobile groomers.
Poor baby...its so hard to see them scared. :(

In South Africa we had a mobile grooming parlour which would come and wash the dogs etc in the yard (or in the garage in winter).
They had a sort of trailer / caravan thing with drop sides and it was fully kitted out like any other parlour!
It came in really handy with my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Fiona, cos she was too big for me to wash on my own, and she hated going in the car!

I've never heard of a mobile grooming parlour here in Montreal.
I think I will stick to grooming him myself, sore back or not, cause I really do not want him to go through this again. To think that he was only in the cage for about 10 minutes and it upset him that much really bothered me. So I've decided no more groomers for him.
Thanks to everyone who responded, you came up with some great suggestions.

Poor Buddy! You sweet little angel. I wish I could give you a big hug and kisses. Please have your mommy give you some extra lovies from me!:)

I'll be sure to give Buddy a big hug and kiss for you.:)

How awful!!!
Poor baby Buddy! If only you lived near Jenluckenbach, she's a pet groomer :D

Just now saw this post ... haven't been on PT in a day or two. Poor little Buddy! I think it is fairly custom for them to put them in cages. They should ask though if the dog is used to being caged first or not though! Sorry, Sweet little Buddy!!!!
Give him a hug and kiss from me too!:)
