Personally, I would find a different vet. If your vet is not offering constructive advice and help - find one that does. Every time I adopt a dog from the shelter, my vet spends about 15-20 minutes discussing different things such as what food to feed, how to fix any behavioral issues, ways to care for their teeth, medical procedures they will need in the next year, etc. My vet is a little more expensive than some others in the area, but to me he is well worth it.
