Help!

Okay my friend Kaitlin is getting a puppy. Her mom is moving to a new house (long story) and Kaitlin will be getting a dog for that house. She wants a pug puppy.

Kaitlin and her mom are always away and no one will be there for a young dog. Kaitlin also doesn't exactly know that you can't yell at a little puppy. She already has an 8year old dog. Sandy is the sweetest thing and her family yells at her for simply sitting with them at dinner (she doesn't beg). I just know Kaitlin won't treat this dog right.

How do I tell her I think she shouldn't get a puppy?

Tell her, especially since they're not going to be able to take care of it properly and be with it they shouldn't get it. It's not fair for the animal.

i agree.. a dog is there to be loved and theres nothing more that i hate than an unfairly treated dog especially a puppy.. tell her what you feel.. say look i know you are getting a puppy but you need to understand that puppies are going to rip up ur couch :rolleyes: {learned that the hard way} and bite and have acciedents in the house.. so you have to agree even if this happens not to be mean or cruel to the animal in any way.. saying it this way is not being mean at all simply just putting it in a nicer point of view.. im good at problems ;)

My friend has way to many animals. She said when they move out they are going to be getting another dog. They can't even afford takeing the animals they have to the vet! So I told her flat out straight "If yo ucan't care for the animals you ahev now why get more. And what would happen if one got sick? Would you just let it suffer. I think you should gfind some of yoru animals homes and only keep enough you can pay for. I know you love them but it's on far to the animals" She got ride of the kittens that her cat had and the cat. And now she only has 2 dogs, who go to the vet even when they aren't sick just to make sure they aren't sick. LOL

Tell her that puppies need TONS of attention, they destory things they pee on the floors they have to go the vet alot and your always away and they take alot of work and attention, mayeb a puppy isn't good for you at this moment in time.

Tell her how you feel, a puppy needs alot of love and attention and if she cant give it that, then i would tell her not to get a dog, she should wait until she really has time for one, oh, and if she yells at her older dog for simply doing nothing, then she doesnt deserve to have a puppy, they are alot to handle

This might be kinda mean but just flat out tell her all the cons of raising a pup. They chew things, bark a lot, whine contiously (exagerrate a bit. When my friend mentionned she wanted a dog I asked if she was willing to do little things like brush him and she said no. So I exagerrated on everything - they poop a lot, they're expensive...and I convinced her not to get one) Mainly just say things that will turn her off from the idea of a dog.

That's exactly what I do when a person I know can't deal with a dog, wants a dog. A friend of mine wanted a siberian husky. I told her flat out that they shed very badly twice a year, they need atleast a six foot fence, she'll have to lay bricks down so the dog doesn't dig, that huskies are more difficult to train, that they need alot of mental and physical stimulation, most don't get along well with others of the same sex, they are a bred that is known to howl, etc...I completely left out all the good things, and completely exaggerated on the bad stuff.

I don't know much about pugs, but I would tell your friend of how suceptible they are to being overweight - Tell her that the dog will need tons and tons of excersice. Also, don't pugs get bit nippy with other dogs if they aren't socialised properly? Well, any dog will atleast, so tell her how she needs to take it out for hours every day and take it around other dogs, where she could get smelly or get hair all over her ;) lol..I'm sure there's more :D

But then again that could be bad because what if they go on to tell others about the exaggerated stuff the breed could get a bad or even worse reputation.

well first off ask her y do you yell at youre dog she doesnt do anythng wrong see what her answer is if she keeps on yelling at her dont talk to her say that yure yelling at youre dog for no reason im not talking to you see what her answer is then tell her straight out if you keep on yelling at youre dog im gunna take youre dog in and call any dog places up and tell them not to sell that person anyanimals because she yells at them for no reason it may be confusing but trust me i have been through this once before so follow my advice bye

ummm little doggie, im not sure she wants to really get in a fight with her friend, just needs to talk.. :rolleyes: there is no reason to take her dogs away just because she yells at her dog.. sometimes i yell at cami but after we cuddle :D only if she is very bad. but im not sure that the advice she is looking for.. :rolleyes:

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to talk to her today and hopefully all will go well.

lildoggie I didn't quite get what you were saying. For one thing I'm not at her house 24/7 so I don't know how often she yells at Sandy. Plus I don't think Sandy should be taken away especially now when she's kind of old.

Pugs are like babies. They need a lot of attention. If your friend isn't ready to have a human baby, she's not ready to have a pug puppy.

My Sister has three pugs, all adults. She works and has a hard time keeping finding enough time to love them as much as they should be.

Please try to convince her that she really shouldn't get a puppy of any kind if she can't spend a lot of time with it.
