Alex (Snickerdoodle) is now at the rainbow bridge. :(

I lost my sweet birdy today. :(

I came home and found him on the bottom of the cage barely there. He went to the vets for a bandage change on Thursday and we noticed he was a little thin. I haven't seen him drinking for a few days but I thought he was, since he was eating. I just thought I hadn't noticed when he had been. Well I guess he hadn't been drinking, or the vet suspects that he had a hidden infection.


His leg was doing so good, and in just a week he could have had it off. :( I have been crying ever since I got home from work. Please pray that he makes it safe to Rainbow Bridge. He died in my arms around 2 o clock. RIP Alex, I am glad you had a wonderful loving home with me, even if it was just for a short while, and please say hi to Pancha and the rest of my gang. I love you sweet birdy and I will never forget you. :(

Poor baby! He was SUCH a cutie and I had such high hopes in him getting all better soon. :( He was such a young baby! Do you have any clue what could have happened? :( Poor sweet birdie. :( You did your best to help him and give him a better life, but it was his time to go. :( Are you sure this couldn't have been something other then illness? (a poisoning of some sort since birds nibble on anything they can get their beaks on)?

No, we think it was an illness. He already had his leg broke and who knows what else had happened to him. :( It could have been stress from his bandage though because he tore it completely off Wednesday, and then tried again after the new one was put on.


There is nothing he could have nibbled, as he only goes on my bed because his leg was healing so his exercise was limited. I knew that he was thin though on Thursday but he has eaten a ton, so I am thinking he wasn't drinking his water. Or maybe he swallowed a string from pulling his bandage? I am just so heartbroken. He was the sweetest bird, so very sweet and now he's gone. :( I am going to stick him in the freezer and then on Tuesday I am going to take himin for a necropsy.

What's weird is I was feeling really weird at work all day, sort of sick to my stomach, having a headache and just feeling faint. I wonder if I knew somehow that he was sick? :(



I'm so mad because in just ONE week he could have had his new cast off and been able to do normal birdy things again. *sigh*


Yesterday was just a horrible day. I went to work and Dan went to his grandmothers while I was working. He gave me her number but it was off by one digit, as in he didn't remember it correctly. So come 12 oclock I tried calling him to pick me up and no answer. I called forever til around 1 when everyone in the clinic wanted to leave soon. The doctors stay a little longer but I didn't really want to make myself a burden. I tried calling his moms to get his grandmothers number to make sure it was correct but they weren't home. So I had no way to call Dan and without a car no way to get home. Of course this was the day I had to forget my keys. :rolleyes:


Well I got a ride home from Kyndall and just waited outside for a bit untl my neighbor got home. HIs gm's number wasn't in the phonebook so I called 411 on Julies phone to get the number. He was waiting for me to call. :rolleyes: You think he would have called work or just came down if I was an hour late. No course not. So then I had to wait another 30 minutes for him to get home.


Then I get home and Alex is on the floor of his cage obviously looking close to the end. I tried to call the vets but couldn't get a hold of anyone. Terri Sue finally called me back, we spoke and as soon as I hung up the phone he did that seizure like thing they do, and he was gone. He died in my arms. :( I am SO glad I was there for him when he went. I think he was waiting for me. I am also starting to think that all that other stuff happened because it was his time to go, that's why I was late etc.


Dylan said goodbye to him and it was Dylans first death. He knew what was going on and I explained to him that the birdy had gone to heaven and that he was happy now. We just held him for a few minutes and said our goodbyes. You could see Dylan was so sad mommy was crying so I had to stop as I didn't want to worry him so much.


I am going to take him to work on Tuesday to have him cremated...Alex not Dylan lol. :p I am thinking of cremating him and then putting his ashes in a planted baby tree. So his memory can be in the tree forever, and I can take him with me wherever I go. :D I just really miss that guy. My house seems so quiet without him here.

Oh ya and for the rest of the whole bad day curse thing, Dylan broke my nose yesterday!!!!!!!!:eek:


Yes, that's right. Now I look like a complete idiot. It's all bruised and I have a huge bump in the middle of it, complete with swelling as well. :rolleyes: Babies this age, sheesh! One of their favorited things to do is headbunt. he's nevr hurt me before but this time, WHAM! he just really want to smack me with this head and of course it had to be my nose.


Well today at 1 oclock we are taking Dylan to a big baby-toddler-kiddie carnival thingy. :D It will help us take our mind off of Alex for now. There are going to be clowns, face painting, jugglers, food etc. I hope we have a good time.

Poor Alex, RIP little birdy. :(

oh no!:eek: :( Im soooo extremely sorry!:( and today i came on PT and i was just about to ask you how alex was doing. :( im sooo sorry! poor baby. Im glad though that he got to spend his last days in a great home with you. aww..... :( . I was really hoping his life would turn out great and he could be a happy bird and you a happy birdie mommy to him!:( You did your best to help him though, and now he is as healthy as he has ever been and happy at the RB, getting tons of exersise with his new bird friends! again im very sorry, many ***HUGS*** to you! oh, I am so sorry for your loss, your hurt! I know it hurts to lose a pet.what a tragic day! I'm sure that Alex is safely at the RB now, and not in pain or discomfort.

Thanks everyone. The sad thing is that I feel like running out and getting another bird! I just feel so weird without him here. I haven't had a bigger type birdy for awhile now and I didn't know how bad I missed it. I feel kinda weird that he's in my freezer still too and that I can't bury him. I want to take him with me when I move, so that's why I want to get him cremated, but I just can't help but feel a little uneasy that he's in there. Today I walked by his cage and I could have sworn I heard him talking!!!! I think death plays mind games with me, because whenever I have lost a pet I always either one) think I see them out of the corner of my eye, or two) here them making noise or what not.


God I just miss him so much. A "friend" of mine made a remark to me this morning and it kind of upset me. She said that I shouldn't cremate him because if I cremate all my pets I will be lugging around 10 thousand pounds of ashes. She said I was weird because I have only had him for a few weeks. Who cares! I don't care if he was here only two days, I loved that bird so much. I put so much into taming him and making sure his leg healed good! I just moved him into a bigger cage that I did up for him so that he wouldn't be bored and I made sure it was safe for his leg. It took me a long time just to block the top section off so that he couldn't hurt his foot if he fell. He was my birdy and I loved him so much. She really made me mad!:mad: :(

So sad, and I have 4 lovebirds so I feel your pain. :( So sorry. :( I think if you get another bird, maybe it will help heal your pain, but never will it replace Alex. I'm so sorry about your losing sweet bird. :( And your friend wasn't very nice to hurt your feelings. :(
