The ingestion of azaleas, oleander, sago palm, yew, day lilies and some other species of lilies can be fatal; they can also cause kidney failure in cats.
Make sure that pets don't go on lawns treated with fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides until they have dried completely (I don't use any of those toxic things at all. Better to have some Japanese bettles than a poisoned dog)
Baits found in mouse, snail, slug, ant and roach traps can contain sweet smelling inert ingredients, such as jelly, peanut butter or sugar that can attract your pets. Always place these poisonous products in areas that are inaccessible to your pets.
Be alert to antifreeze/coolant leaking from your vehicle. Animals are attracted to the sweet taste and ingesting a small amount can cause death.Consider using animal-friendly products that have propylene glycol rather than those containing ethylene glycol.
Keep mothballs, potpourri oils, coffee grounds, fabric softner sheets, dishwashing detergents, batteries, pennies and hand and foot warmers out of your pet's reach.

Thanks so much Albea for sharing!! I hope everyone reads this and takes it very seriously. It hits close to home with me and I will forever be so conscious of what is in my home, my yard and even my neighbor's homes and yards.

Thank you so much for these tips--our vet gave us a list of plants and flowers, but not the other stuff.
coffee grounds??--I'm guessing it's the caffeine, but I don't know.

Sue, there is a pet-safe pre-emergence weed control/fertilizer called WOW!Plus.
Take a look at Gardens Alive! Website:

They have many other products that are safe for pets.

Thanks for the info, Alicia. My husband sprayed the weeds yesterday and Killi and Shi are banned from the backyard for three days and til it rains. Two years ago I wouldn't let my hubby spray and the whole yard turned into one big weed (not good for my asthma). I hate to let him spray, but I know what happens if we don't. :rolleyes: I'll check that website!!
