the stray

Today after reading of the karens sad loss of her precious cody, i thought about the time when i was put in an awful situation, about ten years ago now.
We had a black tomcat stray in our area, he was not neutred and starving, unfornately he fought with every cat in the neighbourhood, i did not own one then, and caused many injuries to peoples pets and himself i would say, he was hated by many people who threatned to shoot him, i know horrible, it was not the poor cats fault as usual humans were to blame.
The SP.C.A has been trying to catch him for months, i used to see him quite often walking along my fence, he was pretty wild i think, and i can imagine had to sustain many cat fighting injuries, he also looked like he had rickets as a kitten or his back legs had been injured sometime.
I remember seeing him oneday and i just cried my heart out, he looked so sick , he had puss pouring out of his eyes and he looked very ill, i decided i was going to intice him into a cage , i actually managed to do this, i think it was because he was so very ill, the SPCA came and took him, i cried yet again because i knew his fate and i was responsible, they said he had feline enteritis, i often wonder if i did the right thing, i did not want the poor animal to suffer but at the same time i felt so mean being the one to sign his death warrant so to speak, i often think of the poor creature and how different his life could have been if he had been looked after in the first place.
