Vanilla?

I read that putting a drop of vanilla in your rat's water will help control the smell of their urine by neutralizing the amonia...

Do you think it's true?

This has worked well with me for mice. I've never had an odor problem with rats, but I imagine that it would work the same. The ratio of vanilla to water is suppoesd to be 1 tsp/gallon, and I just bought a gallon jug of water and added vanilla to it and....voila! Lasts me about a week usually.
