Sore throat suggestions?

My little, sweet, elderly beagle, Winston has a sore throat and laryngitis. I've taken him to two vets. The x-rays are clear and his blood looks good. But he keeps coughing and is hoarse. Does anyone know of a sore throat soother for dogs? Thanks!

My husky, Nebo, had a sore throat, runny nose, and an eye infection when he was younger. The vet just gave us some cream for his eye, and some antiboitics....they worked pretty fast. I don't really know of something to soothe the throat though, sorry.

One morning bella wouldn't eat her food, I had to sit and hand feed it to her. After a day of her not wanting to eat we took her to the vet who said she had a sore throat. He put her on two kinds of medications. One was an antiflamatory and the other an antibotic. This happened several times, I thought maybe the dry food was scratching her throat. Now we add a tablespoon of canned food to her dry. We haven't had a problem in over a year.

How do you know if a dog has a sore throat? :confused: I didn't know they could lol

He's coughing and gagging and has had laryngitis for several weeks. He's very unhappy. :(

I don't know if it would help, but you could try the sore throat tea they sell in health food stores and some grocery stores. You could try to make ice cubes out of the tea, or add some honey and lemon and see if your dog will drink it.

I found out what's wrong with Winston. He has an ulcerated lump growing on his larynx. That's what's been bleeding. At least he's getting treatment now. My first vet basically ignored me for six months. I got a second opinion and the answer was revealed. TO EVERYONE: Get a second opinion!!! It could save your pet's life.

You were a good/smart mommy for getting a second opinion.
I wish I had done that, on one of my R.B. dogs instead
of putting so much trust in our vet.

Thank you all so much for your good wishes. Win seems to be much better already just being on antibiotics. :) His gagging has virtually stopped. I hope it will be that easy to cure him with just antibiotics. His overall health is very good.

Well, turns out my guy has a malignant tumor on his larynx. It's very rare. Treatment options include removing the larynx and the tumor, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. I've decided that, at his age and the fact that he also has a severe heart murmur, I'm going to treat him symptomatically, spoil him rotten, and take one day a time.

If anyone has a dog who exhibits a dry, hoarse bark and shows fatigue or breathing distress. Have your vet check him/her out immediately. A hoarse bark is not normal and can be treated. There could be many causes. Don't let it go too long without a vet's opinion.
