Pet of the Day, responding to email

We enjoyed reading about and seeing Axle. That's an excellent
picture of him. Could you tell us more about him? You say he likes to hang out with the dogs, we're curious about that. The snapping turtle we owned for a time seemed to know only two things - "I bite it," and "if it tastes good, I eat it." He was a baby, so when he tried to bite my thumb it didn't hurt, as my thumb was twice the size of his head, but how does he show that he likes the dogs? Just curious! He is a big, handsome dude, and an unusual pet, congratulations both on owning him, and on his being Pet of the Day!

Just answering the Email & this thread.

Looks like not everyone liked seeing & reading about Axle.

I'll tell people more about Axle as they ask.

Yes Axle likes to hangout with the dog. He'll be walking around & one of the dog will come up to him, & start to sniff & usually will like him. Axle will layhis belly down, spred out his legs & hold his head high & watch the dogs as they sniff & lick him (they mostly lick his head). If the dogs r laying down, he will walk over to them & either walk over them or try to burry his self under them or lay next to them & stick his head all the wayout & look around. When the dogs get hyper they will bounce around him & bark at him wanting to play (even tho Axle doesn't play) & Axle couldn't care less, he will eith keep walking or laydown & watch the dogs act stupid.

Thats how Axle hangs out with the dogs, oh & one dog is a Large german S. mix & the other is a Med Black thing (hehehe).

What Rob & I did with Axle to teach him that bitting people is wrong, is that we wore a work glove & let him bite it & we would give no reaction. We also handled him alot. Some times when he would open his mouth when we were handeling him we would slowly bring one hand under his belly & gently close his mouth shut. He eventually learned that bitting people didn't taste good (yucky work glove, but clean, duh!) and he would get no reaction when he did bite. He's a very smart animal. & if he was to bit me now, my whold thump or 2 fingers would fit in his mouth, but hes hasn't even tried to bite us after his first year of learning that people taste bad hehe.
His head is so big around, I can't touch my thumb & index finger together, there is about a 2 inch gap between my finger & thumb.
