I heard this on the radio when the story broke, our local morning talk radio show is hosted by two animal lovers.

Their only real comment on the story was that the perp needs a long stint in rehab, and they'd like to talk with him after his rehab and see if he realizes what he did and sees how wrong it is. Heroin (or any narcotic addiction) can really screw up your brain.
