Sammy
Sammy is currently purring his head off in my lap. He was very proud to see himself as COTD. His is 7 months old now and weighs nearly 15 lbs. Still VERY playful, he dismantled a roll of Bounty twice today, chewed up a banana, tore down a ton of toilet tissue to sleep on, and obliterated a muffin my son baked yesterday and foolishly left on the counter. (Stupid humans!)Funny that you mention Tigger. Tigger is a big rescued alley cat, a boy, too. The Bengal is Frankie, who was COTD for Oct 4, 2002.

WOW! Sammy you are really a neat kitty...
What kind of cat is the Serval bred to? Bengal? What size will Sammy reach?
Your PURRsons are PURRetty brave to have a little wild child. I hope they have some REALLY good scratching posts!!!!
Are Savannahs a recognized breed by any cat association? I'd love to learn more about them!
Carm
Happy PURRson of the 8GR8CATS!

Thank you for your interest! Yes, Savannahs are indeed registered with TICA. My Sammy comes from "Jewels of the Nile", a cattery in Wallkill, NY. (http://www.geocities.com/junglelynx/).
His grandfather is their Serval stud Pongo, who was bred to a part Bengal/part Egyptian Mau/part Oriental Shorthair female, producing the F1 queen "Marjani". Marjani was then bred to an Oriental Shorthair stud and had 3 kittens (Sammy, his brother Zaire and a white savannah sister).
Much more info about the breed can be found at savannahcat.com.
I don't know how big Sam will eventually get, but he's still growing. He's 7 months old now and weighs 15 lbs. The cool thing about him is his totally sweet disposition. Of course he can be very naughty and has a really weird taste in food. Why would anyone go after cucumbers and bread when I feed him the highest quality cat food?? More pictures of Sammy and his companions can be found on my homepage!
I LOVE everybody's comments and thank you for it!

Incredible! How long has this been a TICA recognized breed?
I will most definitely read more about the Savannah! I did a search myself after I saw Sammy and already started to read about them! Just amazing!
Can't imagine the Cat Fancier's Association will come around too terribly quickly, they don't even recognize Bengals!
I have Maine Coons here in Western New York! They've all been shown and titled. They are just big old sweet fluffy babies!
I am so intrigued by anything feline! I'm a LEO and when I was 10 years old and saw BORN FREE... I've just been awed by all cats great and small ever since!
Once again congrats on your COTD... I've had 3 COTDs myself:
Candy was 3/7/02, Furby was 9/19/02, Moony was 11/23/02

Sammy is a very unusual looking and beautiful cat. Wow, the pictures of the servals, especially Pongo, are WILD! It is amazing that they are so gentle. I think all cat lovers dream of having a lion or tiger as a pet, and that is what you have done on a smaller scale.
