Good News – <abbr title="2012-07-18T15:17:27Z">4 hours ago</abbr></cite> Wollie the cat is making headlines for a remarkable 6-mile journey home to his owner.
"It's a miracle. I really believe that it's a miracle," his owner, Barbara Oliphant,
said.
Oliphant, 80,
tearfully gave the cat to the Animal Rescue League in Bedform, New Hampshire, after her husband of 61 years, George, was hospitalized with a stroke. Oliphant was concerned that she could no longer give the cat, a stray they took into their home last summer, proper care and attention.
When George's health started improving, the Oliphants' daughter secretly visited the shelter and adopted back the 3-year-old cat. Before she could reunite Wollie with his owners, Wollie
escaped his zippered carrier in the shelter's parking lot.
Three and a half days later, Oliphant spotted Wollie crossing a road near her home.
"I said, 'That's Wollie.' I just knew it was him," she
told WMUR. "He was so exhausted, so tired, so hungry."
Back at home, Wollie ate three cans of cat food and slept for about 24 hours, the
Associated Press reports.
"Only he knows the story, where he went, what he was doing,"
said Laura Montenegro of the rescue league. "I just still can't get over it."
