I don't think I would be wanting to leave my t.v. on all day with nobody home. Maybe I'm overly cautious, but I wouldn't want to risk a possible fire hazard, not to mention aging the t.v. prematurely.
I know folks who leave their radios on for their dogs, but the TV is a much bigger power draw. Also, anyone with a window already likely had "doggie tv" - they get just as much enjoyment watching life outside as they would a TV, and that's free!
Agreed Karen. When I was still working I left the radio on since we have a central stereo system with ceiling speakers throughout the house. The dogs were confined to the kitchen during work hours too, so no looking out the window, since they sure couldn't jump up on the counter to look out that window! ;)
