What I like about my hometown

I live close to Cleveland. I don't like it here. Never have but for better or worst this is were I have lived for over 20 years now.
So what do I like about this area?
I love the winters, nice and cold and tons of snow.
The zoo is nice.
Muesem of art is good.
We get some interesting special events here such as
Bodies in Motion or Princess Diana's Dress and perosnal items.
The Titanic exhibit was good as was the Eyptian.
The airport is not too far maybe 20 minutes for me.
I live close to Lake Erie maybe 7 minutes which is nice.
Other then that I am not a fan.
Would love to hear about others home town and what they love.
Sorry I meant where you live now , not neccesary ones hometown but current place of residence.

My hometown is Staten Island, NY. I hate it, and always will.

I will always consider where I live now, in Central Jersey, my hometown. Granted, I'm not in love with there area, but I do prefer it to NY.

What I do like about it:
-All my friends live here.
-Only about an hour and a half from NYC.
-Good Commute to alot of areas and attractions.
-Very Very safe.
-Close to the beach/boardwalk.
-Not totally out in the boonies, but not completely "city-like" either.
-Great GREAT park system!

What I like about where I live....

What I like about where I live now (which I am guessing is what you mean, instead of where I grew up):
Paul (he was born here, and is why we live here.)
Proximity to major medical institutions (many either here or one town away)
My neighborhood - it is much friendlier than one would expect in a city of this size
The library - great resource
Proximity to Boston, with all the museums, art and science
The nature - the Charles River, the ocean being nearby, the wildlife
The amount of trees for a city
The diversity of humanity - you'd likely hear more languages spoken in an hour at the local supermarket than you would at the United Nations
The friendliness of people
Cabots!
The variety of weather

While I would prefer to live somewhere less densely populated, our neighborhood is pretty nice - no neighbors behind at all, just the woods that border the cemetery

My hometown was bustling at one time; it was a steel town but now it's a ghost town. What I like about the town where I now reside:

It has that small town feel; the old ice cream store is still in business and so is the toy store.
It's right on the Ohio and Erie Canal so it's rich in history.
It's a relatively safe place; low crime rate.
It's where I met my mentor and late good friend, Helen and her late husband, George.
It's where I bought my first home, that is, my own home w/o anyone else.
Canal Fulton is called Tree City for a reason.

Thank you for starting this thread. It's nice to be reminded that we need to bloom where we're planted instead of complaining about our circumstances.

Wow! I lived on Staten Island for about 5 years and I loved it. For me, it was a fabulous change from Brooklyn, where I grew up. I sang with my cousin while I lived there and there was a fabulous, active musician's community, lots of great Italian food shops, the best fried chicken place, Clove Lake Park where my dog and I went for walks. . .it was nice there.

My hometown is, Brooklyn, NY, in neighborhood of Bath Beach, near Bensonhurst where "Saturday Night Fever" was filmed! ROTFL! I was a very closed-minded community and you could really get stuck there if you allowed yourself. But the HS I went to was "experimental" and I met kids from all over the city there. All races and backgrounds. It opened my eyes. I like the fact that I grew up in the NYC metro area and got to experience that first, then find my way to a quieter life that suits me more.

I LOVE my home town! Though I don't live there now, I still LOVE Pittsburgh! I was born in a suburb just outside of the city and the whole area was my home base. I think a lot of people siill have the notion that Pittsburgh is a smoky, dirty city, but let me tell you it's definitely NOT! The steel industry is about gone here and the city is developing a reputation for creating technology and making advances in the medical field. The Pirates are still in last place, but we can't have everything!

I grew up in Bluff Park a small burb of Birmingham. I loved living there because of the close community and pride that was prevalent. I now live in Chelsea Alabama which is a distant Burb of Birmingham. Although I have traveled the world and lived in many places, I never found a place that could match the things that I love about this area. I live in the foothills of the Applachians so there are a lot of outdoor things that I enjoy. Oak Mountain State Park is my second home because this is where Koko and I spend many hours of biking/hiking their world class trail system. I am within an hour of some of the best medical care in the U.S. Although I am not a shopper we are 30 minutes from some of the best shopping in the Southeast. I enjoy going to the Smokie Mountains and the beach (Gulf Shores) . I am centrally located to take advantage both.

God knew what he was doing when he made me a southerner. I am not fond of cold weather. I get upset if I have to scrape the frost from my windshield. Right now we are having 90 degree weather which I can tolerate much better than months of snow. I can count the significate snow falls that this area has had on my fingers. If I want a weekend of snow I go to Colorado.

Indian Head Park, Illinois, population about 3700, intersection of I-55 and 294 west of Chicago.

I like it because - it's close to everything Chicago has to offer
It's small enough that if I need the police or fire department really quickly, they're there in less than 5 minutes
There are some huge, beautiful old trees
It's got a great park just two blocks from my building
My parents, brother and family, and sister and family live less than 10 miles away
It's close to commuter rail and the tollway
It's just a good town

On a bigger note- I love living in Chicago for
90 degree days with 90 percent humidity
freezing cold days with below-zero wind chills
the Art Institute, the Chicago Symphony, Second City
the Cubs, the Blackhawks, the Bulls
Chicago pizza and hot dogs (no catsup!)
Lake Michigan
I don't like traffic jams, winter storms, summer storms or corrupt politicians, though.

Edited to add: if I ever get enough money to retire I'm moving down by Kokopup! It sounds lovely there!

Kokopup, didn't they once call Birmingham the "Pittsburgh of the south" because of the steel making industry there?

My hometown where I grew up, Lehighton, Pennsylvania.

What I like about it, it reminds me of the small towns that John Mellencamp sings about. I like that it's small town, and people know people and smile and talk to you. I don't have a lot of that in Allentown, where I live now.

Lehighton is also where my parents live, so I love to go back to see them, and in the future, their home will be my home, and I'm glad of that.

I love my hometown.

Since I grew up as a military dependent, I never had a home town because we moved every few years. So I guess my hometown is where I live right now:) I like my little home town because it is small but close to a big city. I like that we have a "downtown" that is safe to walk in and still has business owners that were here 30+ years ago and longer. I like that our little town has a wonderful old fashioned 4th of July parade. I like that we are right next to a large AF base. Also, the name of my little hometown is unique in that NO OTHER American town has this name:D
