Cat owners in Australia - advice needed

A good friend of mine has been on a chat board for several years. One of its members is moving from Australia to the US, and has his 10 year old cat he wants to bring with him. He certainly doesn't want to rehome her.

No airline will take him - and apparently Australia has some sort of ban on pets being exported from their country, or the US and Canada won't accept pets from Aus?

He has found one pet transport service that wants to charge $2500. He said it's the only one in Aus. A quick Google search by me found several others.

No, I don't know where he lives, exactly. But some guidelines from some members who live there would really be appreciated!

I know through bitter experience that you cannot send Cat Nip Mice into Oz, as they consficated two Big AWA Mice, and sent me a threatening nasty letter.:mad::mad:
