(CNN) -- A gunman was at large after firefighters and police responded to a reported shooting Friday at a high-rise building in Orlando, Florida, authorities said.
Authorities received a report shortly before noon of a shooting on an upper floor of the high rise, said John Tormos of the Orlando Fire Department.
A spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, which is helping the city police department, said investigators are looking for a man wearing a blue Polo shirt, gray vest and blue jeans.
"We're in a search mode for the gunman," said Jim Solomons, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
CNN affiliate WESH reported that at least eight people were shot at the Gateway Center -- a 16-story building near Lake Ivanhoe and Interstate 4.
WESH reported that the interstate was closed in both directions near the office building.
Police cars and emergency vehicles surrounded the area, video showed. It also showed people fleeing.
This is so upsetting. :(
:( It is so Horrible.. Do you think its someone copying from yesterday's ordeal & just want attention?? Well what a sad way to be getting it.. Like I have said if someone is so unhappy with life then go out & shoot yourself before you shoot someone of such innocence..
It was at an architecture/engineering firm, and they are saying the shooter was a disgruntled former employee who had been laid off at some point. Still looking for the shooter. Schools in the area are on lockdown, and they have closed part of I-4.
They have caught the shooter.
I will never understand why the object used by the criminal is blamed before the criminal.
If we banned or destroyed everything dangerous in the hands of a crazy person.... You would only be allowed pillows and bread. But then again, bread can make you fat...

How VERY different would this have been had the soldiers (citizens) been armed?
More of the victims are alive because the Shooter used a "cop killer" gun.
Armour piercing rounds are not available to citizens and are highly controlled with LEOs and the military. The 5.7 round is not much more then a .22 Magnum IIRC.
Less people would have been shot if more people were carrying.

No spin, its a fact that if the shooter had used a more powerful firearm more people would have died. The FN 5.7 isnt the only handgun with a 20 or 30 round magazine. If more people there where armed less people would have been shot, thats not fact but at least its debatable.
Handgun bans and gun control have worked really well in Chicago and DC<<<SARCASM.

It makes me sick that people take their unhappiness out on others in such a way. you want to kill yourself go nuts but don't drag others into your misery just because you are angry with the world because things didn't go the way you planned.
I will never blame anything or anyone other than the person who committed these crimes. the crime is the fault of the person who committed it. would it be BETTER if it were a bomb? a knife? a brutal beating? would you be happier if only one person died? I wouldn't... it would be sad and tragic no matter what and NOTHING about the murder of an innocent person is going to change that
