Poor appetite - boredom?

Smudge lost a LOT of weight, which was OK up to a point, since he'd been overweight. It was through not eating very much - not outright refusing to eat, just light nibbling. There was nothing wrong with his appetite when I was making a sandwich! (Meow? Meow? *reeeeeach up to the counter!* Meow?) Yesterday morning I picked him up and he felt SO much lighter that I figured he was losing too much weight too fast. So I found some different grain-free food, and you wouldn't believe the difference. Remember that old Bugs Bunny cartoon? "The same thing every day," says the king, "variety. I want something different!" And it seems like "something different" was exactly the right way to jump-start Smudge's palate. Mangia, bambino!

Hey, whatever it takes! Gotta keep our furkids happy. I'm glad that it worked and that Smudge is interested in eating again. :)

I'm glad to hear Smudge hasn't lost his appetite after all. :) Fister is the same, he gets bored with his food too, but when I open a NEW bag of kibbles, or a can of wet food, he gobbles it up. :D

If your kitty has been overweight in the past, has recently lost alot of weight and is at times not eating you might give serious consideration to a vet check up and mention all these things to the vet.

We've been seeing ALOT of diabetes cases at work in the last 6 months or so. In all the cases the pets had been overweight, and lost alot of weight (not on a diet). Some also had a lack of appetite and drinking alot of water.

In the case of diabetes the longer the problem goes on the more damage is done to the internal organs. Even though your kitty is eating now, the unplanned weight loss after being overweight is enough to warrant a check up with the vet. It might just be bordeome with the food, but is it worth the risk if it's not?
