Injured Robin
Tonight while taking the dogs out, I saw something fluttering in the trees. I went to investigate and found a robin stuck on a tree branch. A piece of string was wrapped around her foot and the branch.
As I held her, I began to untangle the mess. I quickly discovered her leg was broken and mangled. :(
I placed her in the crook of a nearby tree, hoping she'd fly off on her own.
I checked in on her periodically and she was still there and ants were swarming her mangled leg. When Andy got home, we decided we'd move her into a box with some food and water to let her recoup after cleaning up her wound.
So I fetched her and held her while Andy administered some water (to wash off the ants), then some peroxide and finally some neosporin.
After setting her in the box, she kept trying to hop up. After a few tries of stroking her head and wings to calm her, she lept up and perched on my hand. She stretched her wings a couple of times and then flew away.
I hope she survives.
Good luck little robin.

Awww, thank you both for caring enough to rescue her!

When I was younger I remember we had a mourning dove missing a foot who lived near our house for several summers. Hopefully the robin will have just as good of luck.

Very kind of you! I bet the bird was just thanking you before flying off. :)

How sweet of you and Andy to care for the poor little robin. I hope it survies too.

Awww..it's good deeds like this that make up for some of the cruelty in the world. Good on you for taking care of the smallest of creatures. I hope wee Robin is fine.

Thanks everyone. :o :)
I thought I spied a one legged robin yesterday but wasn't sure. We have a lot of them around. :)

Now these are the wonderful stories that never make the news.
Thanks Kimmy and Andy - I too, hope the robin will be alright.
