Horse ppl! just curious. *approaching a horse*

Hello,
I was wondering what methods people out there use, or feel is the right method for approaching strange horses, or horses that haven't has much human interaction, along with shy horses. I have my method that works a lot, but I was wondering what method works for other people.
My method: I have a treat always in my pocket for meeting horses, but I don't let them walk to much in my space, unless under circumstances, usually a horse that is to shy wont anyway, depends right down the the treatment of the animal and how they act because each case is always a bit different.
Also was wondering if anyone out there work with levels of Pat Perelli, or Monty Roberts or someone similar, and how they go about it? let me know! thank you very much.
