Collie pups **PICS** - 1 wk old today

The Collie babies are 1 wk old today so thought I'd share some new pictures of them... Sadly we did lose one of the rough tri males on Saturday. I believe he crawled under the blanket that is in the whelping box and got caught up under it while I was gone for a few hours saturday. Thankfuly the other puppies are doing great... and are nice and fat and growing like little weeds!!

I am now pretty sure both blue merle boys are smooths!! So if that is correct we have 4 smooths (2 blue boys, 1 tri boy, 1 tri girl) and 1 rough tri boy. Once they are a bit older and up on their feet I'll get individual pics of them.... but anyway.. here they are at 1 wk old.

Smooth Tri boy - I think he is absolutely beautiful!!! When I am looking at the litter and watching them nurse or just watching them sleep my eye always goes to him!...

Sorry to hear of the casualty, but I am happy to hear the rest are doing great.
Continue to keep us updated, please. :] I can't wait until they get their eyes open and begin to develop more pronounced personalities.

Just wanted to share one more picture i just took...thought it was cute with 2 of the puppies sleeping on their backs like their mama does!...lol

Aw..I'm so sorry you lost one of the babies. So sad.

But I'm so thrilled the other beauties (gasp!) are doing so well! Hmmm... let me guess which one you'll keep....:p

So cute, how do you tell rough and smooth when they are so small?
Maybe it's the pictures but their coats all look the same.

Actually right now you can't go by coat length... the tri-colors are easy to tell, you can tell rough and smooth on them right from birth. Below are pictures of a smooth tri and a rough tri so you can see the difference in the markings on their faces. These pics were taken at about 1 day old.

This is the smooth tri girl. Smooths have very clear, distinct lines between the black and tan markings on their face.... were as in roughs, which you will see below the markings on the face are much more smutty...

The blue merles are a bit more difficult because the merling on their face is so light its hard tell see the face markings clearly.... and really on the blues I wouldn't say for 100% the blues are smooth, but that is what I THINK they are LOL The reason I am guessing that is.... now that they are 1 wk old, the rough tri boy (and the rough boy we lost on saturday) has a cow lick of fur running down the back of his front legs, where his long hair/feathers will be once he is older..... were as the 2 smooth tri-colors do not have this cow lick of fur running down their legs.... and neither do the 2 blue merle boys... which makes me think they are smooths.... we'll see though, it should be pretty obvious in the next week or 10 days....

Aww, so sorry you lost the one boy.

The other pups, though, are looking fat and happy! I wondered the same thing about telling rough from smooth at this point, thanks for answering that one!

The last picture is just ridiculous. I want to cuddle all of them! Gimme blue boy on the left... seriously. I love the little stripe down his nose.

I'm so sorry about the rough tri baby that you lost. RIP little guy.

I love getting my newborn puppy fix everyday. It will be so much fun watching them grow from little eating, sleeping, and pooping balls of fur to little lively, rambunctious. loud pups, each with their own personality.

I'm so sorry to hear that you lost one of the puppies.:( I'm glad that the rest of them are all doing well. They sure are adorable.:)
