Hello....
I have a small request....
For my RE homework I have to do a survey thing about marriage... and so I was wondering if people could answer these questions for me please??

We got married at the Town Hall Registry Office.
Neither of us are religious, we had been together for many years and already had Katie :D (I never wanted the big dress thing either)

- Are you Religious? Yes, I guess so. But I don't go to church
- Why did you marry in church? Just the thing to do

If answer no - Where did you marry and why? We married at my mother's house mainly because neither of us are religious and hubby was not good in a group of people. So it was just him & I, my mom, 2 friends of mine who were witnesses and the judge performing the ceremony.

Back yard of my parent's house. Partly to save money. Partly because my old next door neighbor was a minister and he felt like a second father to me. I wanted to have him officiate, even though he was not our denomination (hubby's Protestant and I'm Catholic, the minister was something all together different, still not sure what he is) Mr. H had moved to the south and actually flew back to Pennsylvania to officiate in my wedding.
All my Catholic friends were having a fit about me not marrying in the church. I hated the idea of being married by a man I didn't know anything about (a random priest). I wanted someone I knew to perform the ceremony. I wouldn't have had it any other way :)
Yes, we married in church but we were/are not religious. I've always been a spiritual person and am still looking for a church that I can feel at home in. So far, no luck, so I do my inspirational reading and praying every day, knowing that I don't need "sticks and bricks" to encase my spirituality and love for God. I do yearn for a spiritual community, though. We married in a church mainly to keep our families happy and I had been married by a Justice of the Peace for my first marriage and it was an unpleasant experience and I didn't want to do that again. Plus I'm big on ceremony and ritual and I liked the idea of having family and friends there to witness and participate. For the second marriage, my 7 year old son (at that time) was the ring bearer and I wanted to make him a part of the experience. I also thought that by getting married in a church, perhaps the marriage would "stick". It did for 24 years. Then it came unglued. LOLQuote:

- Why did you marry in church? God ordained marriage. Marriage was His idea and we chose His church as the place. :)

- Why did you marry in church? I never had a thought of getting married anyplace else. We were married at our Cathedral by a priest who knew both my husband and I since we were kids.

- Why did you marry in church? Well, for one thing, we met in that church, so it was a very special place to us. Plus, to have the ministers we love and trusted, right there in such a beautiful, quiet, sacred place, where our family celebrated communion together during the service, just seemed like the obvious thing to do. And it was perfect, if I do say so myself.

- Where did you marry and why? We got married in Jackson Hole, WY outside of the visitors center beside the Elk Refuge. Why there you say - we had never been there (it's beautiful out there) and we aren't real religious people so church was not an option. We didn't have a traditional ceremony. The magistrate read us a native american marriage type thing, I have the copy of it. It was outside, just hubby and myself, his parents and the magistrate. No dress for me either. It was just what we wanted and I wouldn't change anything about it.
NO we did not marry in a church. Although we are both Christians we got married at the courthouse. We went for our marriage license on Friday and got married on Monday. It was just the two of us. No one else was there.

Yes, I was married in a church. Well, it was a church building. It had been the church of a t.b. sanitarium.

I am not religious. I have become decidedly less religious in the 10 years since I married.

It felt right at the time. It seemed like the thing to do. For our families. It was a compromise.

The reason we married in the first place is we believe that God wants man and woman to marry...otherwise, we would have just lived together, but we feel God wants man/woman to be in a union of marriage with Him as head of this union. So we married in a church b/c it is a place of God, a place of worship...so it only made sense! :)

We were married not only in the law's eyes, but God's. God instituted marriage... why not get married in His house?
