Daisy bit a person!!!

Well.. My worst fears have come true... :(
Daisy bit my Shauns mom today.. :mad: :eek: :mad: :eek:
She knocked at the front door, and Shaun answered it.. She came in the house and all the dogs *Baby, Tikeya, Oscar, and Ebony* greeted her at the door, tails wagging and all wanted pets!... Untill Daisy came Bolting up the stairs barking, and bit her in the back of the leg.. Then Shauns mom screamed in pain and Daisy let go, ran downstairs, and hid.... :eek:

She pulled up her pant leg and she has a HUGE blood blister there now... Its really bad.. Didnt break the skin, but it sure looks incredibly painfull.. :eek:


I knew in the back of my mind that this would happen eventually, I was just praying that it wouldn't happen... So yeah, Shauns friend, Jamies, Aunty takes in problem pitbulls, ones who have bitten people and would have been put down if not saved by her..
She has a HUGE heated kennel where the dogs sleep in their individual pens and she brings them in her house on a schedual.. *some of the dogs dont get along with eachother do they have to be put on a schedual to avoid furthur fighting...*..

I hate that this is happening... ***sigh***.. :(

That is terrible! Will Daisy be going to this kennel that you mentioned or is that just an option? You said that you knew it would happen eventually. How did you know that? Forgive me if you've mentioned this before. I'm a relatively new member and haven't caught up on all the background information for everyone. I hope things go well for you though.

Well...I hope Shaun will learn that he could have MAYBE mostly likely have prevented all this by learning how to train Daisy properly.

I mean - this is his mom, not a stranger.

It's not Daisy's fault. Poor girl!

And it isn't your fault either. I hope Jamie's aunt can take Daisy, and also that she and her nephew can have a talk - maybe he will listen to her when he won't to anyone else.

I know you were concerned about your baby too.

Nevermind my previous post with the questions about her behavior. Catty1's post jogged my memory and I do recall reading previous posts about Daisy and your concerns about her. I'm very sorry.

I know I wish I could have known Daisy as a puppy, maybe I could have prevented all this.. I know for a fact Daisy was spoiled rotten as a puppy, always in a safe place *in her mind* and now that she is shown a whole different world she has never know *new people and places* she just cant handle the change.. Its really too bad, but maybe its for the best... I just hate having to go thro this.. I hope that Jamies Aunt wants to take her in.. Because if she doesnt, I am not sure what we are going to do.

Have you considered a behaviorist? And working with her? Why would she need to be put down, for a bite that didn't even break the skin?

I dunno. But, I do know that Gonzo could definitely escalate to nipping people who come into our house, if he was not handled properly in such situations. He is very sensitive, and he's fine with any people, except for CERTAIN people coming into the house. The key is desensitizing him to people coming in and out, teaching him to wait when some one is at the door, and introducing him slowly... or crating him when it's appropriate. It is a SLIGHT inconvenience, but it isn't life-changing or anything. You can't set her up for failure like that.

Poor Daisy - I do hope the kennels will take her. How is Shaun's Mom today?

The last thing I want to do is getting Daisy PTS.. I rather rehomeher.. I think Shauns mom is ok today.. I just dont get why Daisy would do it.. She has known Shauns mom for a longgg time.. longer then she's known me even!!
This wasn't justa nip.. it left a huge blister about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide.. And the way she came bolting up the stairs, charging towards the front door, wasn't at all friendly.. I hope Shaun just calls his friend right away and gets it over with.. because we have people coming in and out of this house all the time.. And I dont want this sort of thing to EVER happen again.

Why Daisy would do it? You don't think Shaun's non-training of her had anything to do with it?

He forced her to be with kids when she was scared - and then cuddled her afterwards, reinforcing that that fear was ok. If you look back at your posts about how Shaun handled her regarding other people, especially kids, you will have your answer.

He better call his friend's aunt...is he not at all bothered that Daisy hurt his mom???

I hope he acts, and Daisy gets the good home.

I guess I am just in shock still about it.. e said he would call his friend today.. he hasn't yet tho.... I'm concerned that he'll procrastinate... :( Wich is going to make me seem insensitive because I will end up nagging him about it, till he does call..

If this is such a sudden and shocking incident, then why are you acting like Daisy is a lethal dog? Ok, so she left a blister. I'm sure you are aware of the damage that a dog CAN EASILY DO, with very little effort. They have big, sharp teeth. What Daisy did is not right, but I would consider it a nip. When several dogs are all rushing to greet a "new" person (even if the dogs have known her forever, she is not one of the pack, at least not now), they can get excitable, and they can get confused, and they can do stupid things. EVERY dog on the planet CAN bite; it just depends on the individual's level of tolerance, or of stimulus, or of fear, or of pain, etc. I do not allow either of my dogs to barrel up to people coming into the house and jump all over them - that is just rude to the person visiting, and pretty dangerous, especially when you have several large dogs.

Now that you know Daisy is so excitable, and has a tendency to become defensive, why can't you even try to manage the behaviors? Even try contacting a behaviorist? I just cannot imagine giving up on either of my dogs like that, and I would never believe you would, either. You have SO many options to nip this in the bud!

I was not willing to ,as you say "dumping her off with some one else at the drop of a hat".. But now that she has actually bitten somone, its not the same.. I dont care if it was a nip, or a bite.. Nither of them are acceptable, I would keep her if I didnt have kids.. But I do.. You'll understand once/if you have children. She has charged at people in the past, and she is VERY unpredictable.. She needs a home where no children are or ever will be present.. also she needs to be in a low traffic house (people arn't coming and going all day long, like at my house).. I have contacted three trainers already, one dog behaviourist in Vancouver.. and there is no way I can drive 4 hours to Vancouver with a newborn who is breast feeding to go see the trainer.. But the lady who I contacted in my area, said that Daisys fears are due to genetic background, and my never be fixed.. the only thing we can do is make her life easier by getting rid of her fears.. Fear aggression is the hardest aggresssion to correct.. because if you force the dog into a situation it fears it only triggers the "fight vs flight", and if you confort her and get rid of the fears it only makes her think it was okay to fear it... So this is a little more complicated then you think it is.. This wasnt just a nip either, it was a bite.. Daisy has a HUGE underbite and she cannot grab ahold of anything properly.. But she bit Shauns mom the same way as she bit Baby (Great dane)...
