Happy Birthday Franklin!
My sweet buddy turns 8 today! Hard to believe he's the same scrawny, petrified dog who first arrived here almost 6 years ago. He was my first foster dog, along with Preacher. They had spent over a year in the same kennel at the shelter. They couldn't be seperated. Even a few minutes without Preacher was too much for Franklin. Preacher was his security blanket, the only safe thing Franklin knew in a world that terrified him. As Preacher aged and Franklin gained confidence, they switched roles and Franklin took care of his ailing friend.

Today Franklin is a happy, confident hard working sled dog who likes to hang out on the couch when he's not working or playing chase with his canine buddies. He loves to work. I took a friend out for a tour a couple weeks ago and her hubby swears he heard Franklin say "RUN" when he was waiting for me to hook up the other dogs. Franklin taught me everything I know about bringing a shy dog around. The many timid dogs who followed in his pawprints have benefited from his patience with the slow human!
Happy Birthday, Franklin! If we don't out for a run tonight, we'll play a game of "bark and chase" in honor of your birthday! When we first got Franklin, we couldn't touch him. The only way he interacted with humans was a game I call "bark and chase"...he playbows and barks, I say "i'm gonna get you Frankie" and we take turns chasing each other around the yard--really, it's more fun than it sounds!
