Help!!!!

I took my cocker, Daisy, to the vet the other day the news isnt good. She tore a ligament in her back leg and needs surgery to repair it. The bad thing is its just past christmas and we have one teenager at home four adults out on their own and fourteen grandkids, Xmas is expensive. Our furnice died and we had to get a new one on the 31st of Dec. that is $1800 and I have to take one of my horses to the vet to get his teeth floated. I just dont have the $ 250 to $ 300 to get her fixed.

She is limping just as bad today as she was the day I took her into the vet even though the vet gave her pain meds, that dont seem to be helping, and said that she would probably get better for a while. She is also 12 yrs old and starting to get cateracts now this. If I dont get her surgery she will get arthritis I dont want her to suffer. any Ideas to help her out till I can afford the surgery? The only options I have at this point according to the vet is let her suffer, do surgery or put her to sleep.

Have you asked the vet about working out a payment plan? A torn ligament is nothing to let go ...

If she tore a ligament in one leg and is favoring the other, she may tear the good leg. The poor thing can't suffer. The pain meds mask the problem. If you explain your situation to the vet, surely he can arrange a payment plan.

If you are accepted, your vet might be willing to accept a deposit and wait for the rest from iMom. Also, your vet will have to fill out a form for iMom saying he will work with them.

I understand that surgery is the best way to go, but it certainly isn't the only option. You could try braces, and even a cart if all else fails.

Several regular HP posters have experience with knee injuries.

Torn ligament is VERY painful and the surgery is the best way to resolve the problem. Waiting makes the tear worse and the surgery a bigger deal for healing.

I would try one of the links for handicapped pets, and try to find a vet that will let you make payments. I have my fingers crossed for you and Daisy.

Have you tried asking friends and family for help? If you have as many children and grandchildren as you say, $20 from each will easily help cover most, if not all, of the bill. I find in my times of trouble, especially if it was about one of my "kids", my family would help me out no questions asked!

The problem with asking the kids for help is they either don't work or make just over minumum wage they dont have any extra to spare. I might be able to get the money from another place but it will take a few weeks (found out about it today) I know that surgery is the only way to fix her and Ill do what I can for her.

Did you apply at iMom?

If that works out, your vet might be willing to wait on payment, with or without a deposit.

There is also Care Credit, which might not take as long...if the balance is paid in 3 months, there is no interest charge (that's the way it was last year, anyway).
