Alicat going to the whitecoats...
I'm a little nervous. Alicat has come SOOOOO far in losing her feralness. I made a date with the TEAM van to have her spayed in November. I'm afraid that when she comes back home from her visit to the whitecoats, all the work I've done to socialize her will be lost.
I worked with 3 feral boys a while back. They all did very well. Once I had them all fixed, all but 1 little guy did fine. Grumpy Dave as he was called, reverted back to his feralness and hasn't trusted humans since. He is now living in upstate CT on a farm.
Anyone with experience in feral socialization ever have this problem. I'd appreciate any suggestions you can offer.
I bet lots of folks here have had this experience with ferals
I bet most of the rescue folks here have had this experience.
The only silly advice I might have is to cover the crate/cage when you take her and don't let her see where she is going and coming back home. I would keep her confined to the smallest space possible once you get her home again. They can, if they want, do her surgery early in the day and let her come home that night. She would probably have to stay in the crate overnight. The only other thing I would do is to try to schedule it for when you have the most time (not working for days) if possible. She will need your love and assurance that she will be fine.
They may want you to drug her before she comes in......to relax her a little.
Good luck. She may just surprise you and pull through this with no problems at all.
Keep us posted.
