yesterday morning, zoey's urine was a bit cloudy. Then after 1-2 minutes, she urinated 3 drops of blood. Again after 2-3 minutes, she urinated a few more drops with blood but more diluted. I took her to the vet today and he put her on a course of antibiotics. Might this be other than urinary infection?:(
It sounds like a UTI to me. Have your Vet check for something else if you suspect it is not a UTI.

what does UTI mean? she juz urinated again and there were traces of blood in it

UTI. Be sure when you finish the meds, that you take a urine sample back in to your vet and he gives her a clean bill of health.
If he mentions anything like:
I THINK we got it all cleared up, or
There is a little bit of crystals left, but they will go away once the rest of the medicine goes through her body...
Then insist on continuing the meds for another cycle. From experience (and on the words of my "specialist" vet) if the infection is not treated completely or if there is any doubt, this will turn into a problem.
Jazz was being treated with one when we adopted. We finished the meds, and the vet (a new one at the center) stated there was some minute crystals left, but the medicine in her system should clean it up. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!
2 months later she got another infection. I took her to our vet specialists and she told us the other one was never cured. Fortunately, she put Jazz on a stronger antibiotic, but on 2 cycles. We did another sample, with no residue. YEAH.
The bad thing about not ensuring a clean bill of health, is that left untreated, or not cured completely, can cause health complications in other organs.
Just make sure you take a sample before and get a clean one after meds.

i have just gotten the results for zoey's urine test.
it seems she has some calcium oxilate crystals. if left unattended, it will turn into bladder stones. the vet said that there is no need for medication but to mix her food with another one called UD Diet. and then to let her have another urine test when the food finishes.
is this the only way? has anyone heard of UD Diet?
My mom's doggie also has this problem and never gets medication. My mom just has to make sure that the dog drinks enough and is not eating canned food.
She now feeds the dog the UD diet from Hills and the dog is fine.

Yup, UD diet stands for urinary diet it is made by Science Diet. It is a vet food only (or at least used to be, some vet formulas can now be found at pet smart & pet-co). I do like the vet. formulas produced by S.D. although personally I am not a fan of their regular foods.Quote:

oh! so this UD Diet can be fed as a replacement of normal dog food! but this UTI is not caused by dog food right? coz i'm feeding zoey eagle pack now
Evelyn, if you are questioning the medical treatment (food, meds, anything) time for a second opinion.
Find another vet and see what they say. Who knows you might find there is medication for it.
A urinary track infection is when bacteria enter the bladder. It is common with humans too. A friend of mines dog got them all the time, she feed her dog blueberries (which decrease the amount of bacteria entering the bladder). She feed her dog like 1/2 cup of blueberries a week. No more bladder infections, and the dog loved them.
