BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) - Man's best friend helped save a tiny cat.

A 15-day-old female panther named Milica has been adopted by a Rhodesian Ridgeback after the cat's mother refused to feed her and tried to kill her in the Belgrade zoo.

"The mother panther has killed all her cubs since 1999," zookeeper Dragan Jovanovic said.

"We believe she has been traumatized by the sound of NATO bombs" during air strikes in the Serbian capital that year, he said.

Now Milica fights with several newborn puppies over milk from her adopted mother. She also appears to enjoy every bit of attention she gets from her new family.

I think the dog was removed & she got in doo doo.. I just remember it being a not so happy ending for her.. I don't remember if the dog bit someone.. I read the article such a long time ago

He still looks quite scary even as a baby! I agree the claws are huge!

Oh how precious. Nothing a like animal, any baby animal.

Um...why do they allow the Female Panther to keep on breeding if it continually KILLS its babies??? That's kind of sick behavior (of the zoo, not the animal, btw)...I wouldn't expect a zoo to do that.

Am I the only one that thinks this odd???

Milica is such a cute little thing and Bless the Mommy Ridgeback for saving this little one.

Wow...I hope Milica will stop making any more babies from now on. I think I'm going to go check out this zoo's website.

EDIT: OK, found the website and well, the English part is well, just a whole bunch of "vistor talk" and I can't read the links are write an email because I can't figure out how to contact them. Hmmm...

I wonder if she has had kittens before.

I think, after this experience, the zoo might see about getting her spayed. It's too bad missile attacks messed her up - but that even more means she shouldn't have babies.

Yea....all her cubs have been killed by her...that's why I wrote that.
