The ones people use on the table for grooming.
We don't use them at my work and I don't agree with them. People say they are safe but if the dog jumps off it snaps it's neck and dies. I'd much rather a dog jump off and break a leg or pull something then die.
If they are used properly, yes or someone could hold the dog for you while you groom the dog.
Yes, we use them all the time. We also use safety releases that snap (velcro) if its pulled hard, like the dog jumping off. A dog should NEVER be left unattended at a table, you should be right there with them, so if they did jump you can grab them. I've been grooming for over 4 1/2 years, I've had plenty of dogs jump off the table (and the safety release snapped when they did) and none have been injured at all. I've never seen a dog "snap its neck and die" from a restraint, neither has my boss who has been grooming for 13+ years. Ours also have a 2nd loop that goes around the middle, so its not just attached to the neck. Ours are not like a choke collar, they do not tighten around the neck when pulled on. If you use them properly and have some common sense they are fine. Personally, I think its safer, the dogs (at least most of them) know they are supposed to stay put when wearing that and they aren't constantly trying to leap off the table.
I think it is more psychological. The dog has a feeling it is restrained and is more likely to stay put.
They should ALWAYS have a safety release, like the cat safety collars or something like that.
And the dog should not be left.
Having said all that, the 2 times I've had Sugar to a groomers, they didn't use one on her; she is such a statue when she is getting a bath or being groomed, they didn't bother. And I've had no trouble working on her here at home (as a beginner, I take TIME getting little trims done, and she is fine!!!)
Agreed. If the dog can get to the edge of the table and jump completely off with the noose around it's neck, the noose pole is way too low anyway, therefore not being used properly at all. The purpose of the noose and pole is to keep the dog from being able to get to the edge of the table, and keep it from being able to jump off. It is definately safer.Quote:

I use a grooming table for my dogs. It's kind of a have to have at a dog show. So far none of my dogs have fallen off. I keep a pretty close eye on them.
