divorce/money questions

Hey all,
Perhaps you can help us. My SIL's husband finally asked for a divcorce (HOORAY!) She's been miserable for years and found out several years ago that he has a separate family in another country with him. She didn't fight him about it since she's so "beaten down" by him. She refused to ask him for a divorce because she felt she made a promise for better or worse and took that promise seriously.

Anyhow, he has managed to hide over a million dollars that would be part of the divorce - yes, you read right, a million bucks! :eek: She knows its there, but she can't find what he's done with it. Anyone know how she might be able to find out this information? She knows her accountant knows what happened to it but she's not talking.... their accountant is a "friend" of the husband. (If you haven't picked up on it, the husband tends to like ot have affairs a LOT)

We just want her to be able to walk away from this marriage with the money she's entitled to for being his wife of 20 years and putting up with his belittling and cheating.

I don't have a DIL! Its my sister in law. Her husband is an absolute, first class JERK. The first time I met him, RB Sammy barked at him, he kicked her and said he'd toss her out in the street to become "road pizza". Personally I think Sammy had great taste ;)

There are forensic accountants who figure these things out for a living. Her lawyer should know one. This is a job for an expert.

these abbreviations are sometimes confusing. lol.

I hope she has a good family law attorney to help her through the divorce. Depending on what state she's in, I know in California monies "earned" during the marriage are considered community property and are divided equally in the divorce proceeding, or as per agreement, but that's for the attorneys and courts to determine.
