pottying on couch
We just got a pup 8 month old sheltie, all he does is lay on couch , we have also noticed this is where he also has been peeing. What can we do /?We have tryed to take him outside on a leash but he just sits there and will not move. I have thaught about puppy pads but being as old as he is i am afraid they would get torn up more than used. Has anyone ever tried them with and older pup?

First and foremost, you need to bring him to the vet and get a urinalysis done to make sure there is no infection. Does he have his shots? Is he neutered?
Provided everything turns out okay, you need to get him comfortable with you and your family. Obedience class works wonderful-builds confidence. Puppy pads aren't always encouraged, as they do encourage pottying in the house. Lots of goodies and love always help. I would suggest crate training-when he is unsupervised, he goes into the crate.

Now that I'm reading this, it sounds like he may have some health issues. If he hasn't been checked by a vet, that's the best thing to do right now, as soon as you can get him there.
I have Chihuahuas and they were pretty hard to potty train. I stuck with a few papers in the house at first but I later decided to remove them. More than anything, it was fooling me and I was getting lazy in getting them out often enough. I didn't think it was a good long term solution.

Also remember- he may not be leashed trained.. He may have no clue what he is supposed to do with " this thing around my neck". However- since he doesnt know where he is, being off lead is out of the question. I noticed on the other post the suggestion of calling the breeder first. I agree- maybe they can tell you somethings to do to help him feel more at home.
He could be peeing on the couch because he is afraid to move- or he could have a urinary tract/bladder infection. Check that out. Getting any new pets, you should have a " wellness visit at the vet anyway..

It sounds like your puppy is fearful and I would called this a submissive urine. Well, it sounds like your puppy does not socalize with a lot of people, I would start it now before it gets older.
