Did anyone get to watch the Shuttle Launch tonight?
We are in Hobe Sound, FL. We are a fair distance from NASA but we saw the shuttle. It was a bright orange flame and then we saw the boosters release. After that it looked like a star and eventually we couldn't see it anymore.

Yes, I did see it. It was absolutely spectacular wasn't it? With a little cloud cover, we still had a great view. It was brilliant at night!! I was out last night and a little closer to the Cape so I really got a better view than I would from home. Awesome!! :) :D :)
I'm just sorry that everyone can't see it like we can.
I was at my friend's 30th birthday party. We all forgot about it and most of us were in the house. I think only 3 of the people there were outside when it went up.
I wonder if maybe this is more significant to Floridians, as they can actually witness it? It might seem cooler that way? I don't think I have ever had any interest in any space shuttle, ever. Our paper might have mentioned it, but, if they did, it was a small thing, as I don't remember seeing it. :o
No, but we saw a shuttle landing in 1984 in Florida! It was so special!!

Beautiful NASA TV coverage ... They're OFF and FLYING!!
Now they're "Up There" in SPACE and doing the first of their maneuvering "burns" to
get Discovery headed towards the International Space Station.
I didn't hear anyone holler *YEE~HAW*!! ...
but I'll bet a lot of 'em were sure Thinkin it!

We can see it from here, too. We didn't see the launch today, as our oldest daughter was a little under the weather, but it is an awesome sight. We've only lived in FL for a year or so, and we do enjoy watching the launches.
I saw it earlier today. It was beautiful. It always makes me want to tear up. What a spectacular thing to witness!!:)

I haven't personally seen a launch or a landing but I have had a bunch of fun shuttle experiences.
I was in the mountains just south of Edwards AFB when a shuttle was coming in for a landing and broke the sound barrier.....the sonic boom that echoed thru the mountains was the scariest thing I have ever experienced in my life! It sounded like a bang and the arcing of a downed power line. It was so loud I couldn't hear the people at the picnic bench next to me! And it lasted for about 30 seconds!
I have seen the shuttle on the back of the 747 in flight. That was EFFING AWESOME! Check out what a 747 looks like then put the shuttle on it's back. The engines on the plane sound like they are redlining to stay aloft.
I have walked thru the same 747! It's completely stripped down to the bone on the inside! And that same day I got to handle some of the heat proof tiles from the orbiter and see the crane that lifts the shuttle onto the back of the 747!

Yes, I watched yesterday's launch. It was fantastic.:) I love how they
position the cameras now so you can see the earth recede in the back-
ground. I was fasinated to watch the increase in speed as it approached
the 4000MPH mark.:eek: (Also able to see the small piece of foam that
fell away from the ship)
I didn't even know they were launching a shuttle. :o I was at work all day so I didn't even get to see it on television. I hope to see a shuttle launch one day. It must be spectacular. I've actually been in florida when they launched one and we heard it but we didn't see it.
I think it defintely is more significant to us. I've been here for 50 years and I've seen so many of them. Most of us down here take personal pride in the whole process. When we go outside,most of our neighbors are outside too. It's been like that in every house/town I've lived in. If you're at work, everybody stops working and goes outside. It brings everybody together for a rare few minutes.Quote:

I didn't see it launch, and really didn't know about it until now. I think if you live in Florida it is a bigger deal. Since, I use to live in Florida we'd always know when they were launching a shuttle and I was able to see it go off. (Wasn't clear view but you could see it as a tiny little thing and all the smoke, etc.) :)
