First, Welcome!
Unfortunately, if the mother cat had been spayed in the first place then the cost would be greatly reduced (comparatively). I would try googling "free" or low-cost spays and neuters. Your local shelter, etc, might be willing to work with you on the fees, too.
Call any local veterinary schools, and the humane society. They both may either offer - or know of - a low-cost spay/neuter program.
I have found lots of resources by typing into Google: "Free spay and neuter in __________" (enter the name of your state).
There's more than you think.
