Where does your dog go on his holiday?

When we go away and are unable to take Toby with us, he spends his holidays with my Mum. They both love the time together. She walks him down all the country lanes near her house and he is even allowed on the sofa now!! He knows where he is going when we start to pack his holiday bag and gets very excited and dances all over the house. Mum misses him dreadfully for the first few days when we return and pops in to see him regularly.

Toby loves to see us when we return and explores the garden when he gets back, maybe just to see if anything has changed whilst he has been gone :p

Perry and Daisy love to see our travel bags come out because they know they are going with us. At our age now, we travel only to places that we can bring them, we have found hotels that welcome dogs and we go to the cabin in the mountains. They love traveling and when driving they are in their crates for safety sake, if we are making errands here we strap them in their safety harness, connect them to the seat belt in the back seat and they love to go for rides.

I don't travel too much except for to my parents' house 3 hours away. Whenever I go there, I always take the dogs and cat with me.

If I am going to be busy for a whole day without being able to come home and check on them, then they will go to my sister's for the day. If I ever have to go out of town without them, they will either go to my sister's or my parents' house.

I try to take mine everywhere I go but when I can't, I have found a fantastic dog border in my town. The treatment he gets there is awesome. I recommend scouting out several places first, talking to the employees and use recommendations of others that are happy with their "doggy hotel".

We are planning our Thanksgivings trip to Fort Myers Beach and Ricky will be right with us. The advantage of having a motorhome and traveling in it is he can go anywhere we go. He has his own favorite little spot for his bed and is quite content. He loves camping because everywhere we go, people make a fuss over him. :)

I am very envious that some of you can take your pets to relatives, or even better, with you, on holiday! I had to board my dogs for a long time, with a friend or neighbor checking on the cats, hamsters and hermit crabs. Finally, I grew wise, and I have hired a petsitter that my girls adore!! But believe me, whenever I can take them, my dogs go with me. They're just so big that they aren't always welcomed with open arms. So my solution is to stay home with them for a while!!! :D

A good mental break here for me. I used to always go camping at the State Park in Delaware with my guys, but since my partner died I haven't been able to go back. Now, when I have to leave town on business I have this wonderful buddy that stays at my house and BRINGS HIS DOG, who happpens to be the sister of several of mine. I trust him (ol'hippy that he is) 'cause he knows and loves my guys - besides that i have cable TV (and fill the fridge :D ) . What a heavensent situation I have found myself in. Of course now I have my son here, with his dog so it's even cooler.

Ha, ha, Laurie, with 28 posts, you are just getting started, but I think you have passed the point where you can quit. I think we can say you qualify as "one of the us".

Just read your profile...seven cats and dogs! Yes, you certainly do qualify. We may even have to promote you to an exalted status.

I get so homesick if I do not take the dogs
with us. This is how bad I am.
The beginning of this month my husband
spent 2 weeks in Hawaii. I met him their
for the last 5 days of his trip.
I refused to be away for 2 weeks with
out the dogs. lol
We our taking our M.H. to S. Lake Tahoe for Thankgiving and of course all 3 dogs
will be going with us.
When we can't take the dogs, they
stay at home.
Our next door neighbor along with a
family member comes over 2 times a day to
take care of them.

We go to great lengths to take our two dogs with us when we go on vacations. Short weekend getaways are no problem; longer trips require some planning, but are still not that hard to do. We went to the Mendocino area for a whole week in June, and the dogs had a ball with us! And we enjoyed it all the more having them there.

The very few times we have had to leave them behind, Paul's parents take them to their house for the duration. There, K & E get to romp with three other dogs on almost an acre of land, bark at the horses next door, chase gophers, eat table scraps, and dig in the garden. It's like a big, cool, doggie daycare center for them--with no rules! :D

I absolutely hate to be away from my babies and find myself not even going to a relatives for dinner if the dogs are not welcome. Since I work all day, I will not leave them in the evening unless absolutely necessary! I'd rather be with the dogs than some humans I know anyway. :eek: I guess I'm obsessed but they give me such joy and love!

If we do go somewhere though they go to my groomers and they just love it since she has 3 Goldens and they can play nonstop. They usually rest for a whole day when I bring them back home. :rolleyes:

I'm absolutely with you Dixieland Dancer. When I get home from work I have to figure it's my quality time with my pups, I don't really want to do anything else. When I would work overtime I used to tell them "hey guys, look at all the extra money I'm making" and my husband would say "they don't care about money, they don't even have pockets :D He was right. They want me. I love and need my guys and they love me and miss me when I'm gone, even though they do have each other.

alright, enough here...I really am getting too addicted. Can't help it though, have never met so many people that share the same brain I guess :confused:
