do you think its wrong to sell dogs? why?
It depends on the situation. I don't agree with people getting dogs and then selling them for pathetic reasons, and I don't agree with BYBs or Puppymills. I have zero problems with reputable breeders selling dogs though.
Puppymills and backyard breeders I have a BIG problem with but respectiable breeders selling dogs doesn't bother me.
Not so much breeders in general...but ditto with puppy mills and such. It's just crazy with them because there are so many other dogs that need homes...and they have these sick, unmannerly dogs that are difficult to train and often go into homes with children...and don't get me wrong, I love children, but they have a tendancy to treat them like a toy...
i put no, but i ment to put sometimes...i support and am 100% ok with REPUTABLE and RESPONSIBLE breeders selling dogs..not BYB's or puppy mills.
I'm all for good breeders selling their dogs responsibly and ethically.
Yes. I think it is wrong to sell dogs for profit.
One of my friends runs http://www.heatherlyaussies.com/ and while her puppies are expensive by many people's standards, she rarely if ever comes away with any profit, and if she does it goes right back into caring fo the rest of her dogs.
She is breeding to improve her breed, she does not breed often, and she places her dogs carefully. I may not agree with everything she does but overall I think she is an excellent breeder.
People who breed any old dog to any other dog just because "they're both AKC registered" or something like that get zero respect from me. The parents should both be tested to ensure that they aren't carrying genes which could cause problems in the offspring, etc.
I could care less if a breeder made a profit (and they don't when you count the food costs, medical costs, entry fees for shows/trials, whelping/mom and puppy care costs, grooming costs, training costs, etc.), so long as they breed, raise, and re home responsibly (and don't charge more for "show prospect" puppies or for certain colors... that's a pet peeve of mine).Quote:

oh...yeah...almost forgot about the show prospects...when we bought my dog Gace, she was the runt of the litter and was just like a normal lazy family dog(and I love it!) but we paid less for her, and she has won 6 BOB's. So, over pricing for show prospects is rediculous...when even shelter dogs can win the AKC shows...
Depends on the situation. I'm all for reputable breeders selling puppies and dogs -- they rarely make a profit as it is. Same with rescues, since most rescues don't make a profit either. But BYBs, puppy mills, etc, whether they make a profit or not, they shouldn't have puppies to sell in the first place.
Like others have said I am agianst BYB's and Puppymillers. But I am a breeder so I am for reputable breeding practices and them selling pups.

to outlaw selling dogs would be devistating on the show/working breeders doing good. We need to find other ways (like education) to erradicate BYBers and mills.
Only if they're a respectable breeder like Zippy said. It all really depends on the situation.
Exactly how I feel.Quote:
